First make sure that the entry of Cmaj7 is not an edit after entering a C7 and the file or track is Frozen, which won't allow for the change.
Could simply be the songfile is corrupted and that means we have to hit New and start all over again. I would try temporarily inserting a different style just to see if the problem is "global" in nature, affecting all styles, or if it is just with the one style chosen.
But before doing that I first try Rebooting the computer to regain lost resources and check the file again. Sometimes try re-entering the chord after the reboot.
