OK folks, I have some big problems with RealBand and hopefully someone here can help me out with them.
Problems: 1. I open a song in RealBand, copy the chords and then open a new song. I can't paste the chords into the new song! Paste is greyed out!!!
2. I hit the Notation and I get the following error: "PGMUS.TTF is not installed. Make sure it's in your Windows or System directory. If not, call your mother." I called PGMusic and they were able to get it to work, but shortly after, the message has come back and I can't get into the Notation window.
3. The grid in the notation window (when I was able to get it to open) in RealBand can't be seen! The grid can be seen in BIAB but not in RealBand. It is white on white in RealBand, a very poor color choice!
4. Missing in RealBand; Opt/Key Sig/Keys There are NO MINOR keys (as there are in BIAB) !!!
TIA

Hi BIABGuy,
I might be wrong but I don't think that it's ever been possible to copy chords from one song and then open a new song and past the chords into it. The "Copy" chord option is to copy chords from one part of a song to another part in the same song.
Regards, Noel

1. I'm confused.... generally if something is greyed out, it's not an active function for what you are attempting. Read the manual to be sure you can actually do it that way.
2. ? I'd probably call tech
3. Grid? do you mean the measures?
4. Yep... real band doesn't deal in keys as far as I know... it's audio or midi.... the key sigs of the song are selected in Band in a Box and you select the minor or major key there....and that refers to the scale that it will use for melody mostly as far as I know.

RealBand does indeed "deal with keys" for the use of BiaB styles generator as well as Notation factors, the key sig should always be checked or set by the user if it does not agree.

No, the vertical grid lines where you see the break up of the bar into beats. 4. As Mac said, you can select Keys in RealBand, however the function isn't fully implemented as it is in BIAB.

Actually it is fully implemented, you're not thinking in the classical music theory sense. A blues in Cm is actually written on a chart as three flats, Eb. There is no key sig for Cm, how would you write that on the staff? No flats? No, it's written as three flats even though the chords themselves could be Cm, Fm and Gm. What are the flat notes in those three chords? Eb, Ab and Bb. Therefore it's in the key of Eb. Still, as a gigging musician for over 40 years I completely get that on stage if the band is going to do a blues in Gm, somebody will yell out it's in Gm not Bb. It's technically not correct but it certainly is very common usage. And please remember RB is NOT Biab, it's a completely separate audio/midi recording program that some very smart folks were able to graft some Biab functions into. Bob
Biab/RB latest build, Win 11 Pro, Ryzen 5 5600 G, 512 Gig SSD, 16 Gigs Ram, Steinberg UR22 MkII, Roland Sonic Cell, Kurzweil PC3, Hammond SK1, Korg PA3XPro, Garritan JABB, Hypercanvas, Sampletank 3, more.

Hi Bob,
From a classical sense, the key signature for C minor exists and it has the three flats of Bb, Eb and Ab as you point out. C minor is often referred to as the relative minor of Eb major (or, conversely, Eb major is the relative major of C minor). If someone said to me that a piece of music was in F minor, the four flats of Bb, Eb, Ab and Db springs to mind.
I personally have problems with modes. If someone shouted out "this is in F Mixolydian", I'd have no idea and I'd have to reason my way through it. I'd start by thinking, G Mixolydian is all whites notes so it's relative to C major and has the same key signature. Since G down to C is a perfect 5th, I'd ask myself, "What's a perfect 5th down from F?" The answer "Bb" tells me that F Mixolydian must have two flats, Bb and Eb, in its key signature.
Ain't music fun!
Regards, Noel

All that math and they still call it music theory. Reading music should count as another language. Always wanted to say that. Think about it. You have to see it, (or hear it) translate it in your head and have a comprehension of the correct result .. like reading/speaking another language. The meaning is a lot more open to interpretation, but the process is there.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

File > Save Scrap will save chords for a new song, File > Load Scrap for new song. Not sure if that's what you need ?
PGMUS.TTF if you can find the font just right click > Install
Go to Option in notation window

Bump... Anyone here able to do what the tech could do? We were both using Windows XP. When I tried to paste to a new song, it was greyed out, couldn't paste.

There is no key sig for Cm, how would you write that on the staff? No flats? I do think in the classical music theory sense, as someone with a B. Mus. As Noel noted, there is a key of Cm. It shares the same flats as Eb Major. When a song is in Cm, I don't want to write it as if it were in Eb Major. If a song begins (and more importantly ends on a Cm chord) it is not in the key of Eb Major.

Do you have the Chord Symbol box checked in both the copy and paste window when they pop up?
I was able to copy/paste chords to a new song using RB in W7. Don't have an XP istall to try it on. I used Edit-Copy, opened a new file and then used Edit-Paste routine, in case that matters What version of RB?

Thanks Solid. I'm using BIAB 2011. There is no File > Save Scrap in my menu. The tech made sure to use BIAB 2011 when she was giving me my instructions.

I just tried to do the copy/paste thing into a new song and it worked this time. Go figure! But my PGMUS.TFF fonts are still not recognized. Can't open the notation window. I gave up on RealBand and have been using MuseScore to enter notation all this time.

Try Control Panel - Fonts See if they are even there. Thanks. First off a gripe at Windoze. Control Panel - Fonts does not list all the fonts in alpha order. It will list a section of fonts in alpha, then another new section in alpha, then another etc. etc. ! Sheesh! BIAB's PGMUS.TTF was at the very end of the list. Yes it's there. However, when I am in BIAB and select the notation window I get this error message: PG Music Font is not installed. Make sure PGMUS.TTF is in your Win System dir. Now for another strange thing. My fonts are NOT in my Win System dir as the error message suggests. They are in Win/Fonts. And yes, PGMUS.TTF is there.

Take this with a grain of salt .. I would assume from the clues that the font is not correctly installed (or corrupted). Unfortunately, a re-install is the only way I know of to correct this.
I haven't found the PGMusic fonts as a separate item to 'install' (as suggested by solidrock above). At least not in recent versions. Maybe others have more insight.
