Hi - Lots to say about 2014 - but let's start here.
This new-for-2014 problem occurs always, but here it is simple. Click new. Select midi style. Disable style, mute master in mixer (all tracks muted). Hit play. Soloist track plays correct chord - like whole notes with what sounds like piano. I can hear it and see it in the mixer piano tab. Add some chords in the CS, soloist track plays chords dutifully. Of course, there are no notes in the soloist track, and it's muted.
Note - does this with TTS-1 and my external hardware synth.
So what is causing BIAB to drone the cords in the soloist track? Some setting not carried over?

I tried it exactly like you described and nothing happened. Everything was perfectly quiet.

Most likely culprit is that the "Send Chords" option has gotten toggled to True. This option is useful if you are using an external device like "The Vocalist" or an external arranger that can read chords in real time.
Band-in-a-Box will output chords in root position on the selected channel during playback. Prefs -> OutputCh and make sure the very top lefthand toggle, "Output Chord?" is not checked. --Mac
