I listened to it in headphones, and the first few measures about took my head off. That was some serious flanger.
Of course it's great. I don't know what you are doing different now, your playing always shone through, but now the entire composition is really good. It is the complete package. Well done.

Sometimes that's how much time it takes. Sometimes takes more. Every once in a while will take less time.

Playing is the most important part, but the mixing (and then the mastering) is yet another skill to be learned. All take time and the experienced folks will typically do a better job than the noobs. Just like with the playing part of the equation.

You are getting a very good handle on the thing, just keep practicing the art.

Great job on every aspect of this one. I only wish mine sounded this good. Maybe if I could play that well I'd be a step closer. lol

Great job.

Only five hours? Count your blessings. The mix is light years ahead of the last one. I'm listening on beyerdynamic DT770 reference 'phones, which are flat from 5 Hz to 22 KHz, through a TASCAM US-224 soundcard, which as far as I know is completely flat. All the freqs are there this time and the mix as a whole is clean and punchy.

I'm gonna quibble 'til ya get it perfect, 'cause your playing deserves it. But. The ONLY thing I would do different is to pull the drums forward in the mix a bit. You'll know it's right when you feel the kick bass in the gut when the bass guitar hits the downbeats. Then maybe use a bit of parametric EQ to tweak the snare sound, just because I like to hear it smack. It's possible that if you push the drums up a bit the snare'll take care of itself, too. Otherwise perfect.

I'm listening to PG Music Blues again and wondering whether you changed anything. The first time I heard it it sounded like it was coming out of a transistor radio--all middle but no highs and lows. This time it has everything I thought it was missing. I was listening through the US-224, but on speaker; good ones, but maybe I had something different. This time the mix sounds great.

I do not trust my ears when using headphones at all.

Especially for spacial arrangement considerations.

Use good monitor speakers instead.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. When I said bring the drums "forward", I meant make them "louder". Nothing to do with location. And yes, I know how to do that in stereo.

I've got it on speaker--8-3/4" x 1" active two-way monitors with a lot of juice behind them--and I stand by my remarks. The drums need to be louder, to the point that you can feel the kick bass on the downbeats. As it is, at any level it's a kind of "thpp" sound, low mids at best with no power on the bottom. DRUMS ONLY, everything else is fine. EQ may be needed for the bass fundamental and the snare. The snare is a matter of my taste, but the kit as a whole needs to be louder.

For an example of the drum sound I have in mind, listen to "My Familiar", a work of mine in progress. You can hear the drums and bass together from 1:14 to 1:54, with a quasi-organ sound from 4:11 to 4:29, then the drums by themselves from 5:15 to the end. You can click and drag the slider to position yourself. (I'll post the tune elsewhere for comments, which I welcome.)

Whether you call it "forward" or whatever, louder, it is still a spacial situation.

And headphones are not the listening device of choice for a recording engineer.

At. All.

There are physical constraints and good science behind that statement.
