Hi,

When previewing realtracks in biab 14 or earlier in the realtracks dialog, it opens with windows media player with me.

However if I have my m-audio fast track pro hooked up to my computer though using the MME drivers in biab, I get an error message that windows media player encountered an error while trying to play the file. Switching off the fast track fixes this problem.

I wonder if you have a better player or method to overcome the above problem?

Thanks a lot
Axey

Did you know that you can set the default player for a given media type in Windows? Unless you have a specific reason for using something else, I would suggest using BIAB itself, which is already set to play through your M-Audio interface.

I don't know which version of Windows you have, but in Vista Home Premium x64 you can make this selection in Control Panel/Default Programs. (I forget where it is in XP and I'm too lazy to get up and turn on my W7 machine right now.) cool

Richard

Thanks Richard for that, yes I know in auto play in control panel it is set to use windows media player as default for music in windows 7.

Problem is when I switch on fast track pro the windows media player wont play the files, but once I switch it off then everything is ok.

Its just that a lot of the time I am sort of going between biab and realband where I do have asio drivers, so its a slight inconvenience.

Maybe better for me just to switch to MME in realband too, and just use asio for recording vocals or realtime playing.

Thanks

I do all my previewing right in BB or in RB.... that way, I can simply click SOLO and hear the track alone or let it play in context with the song.

I export it to a folder and import to Sonar. So it never needs to be opened in any other players. However, if I do open it I use my Wavepad editor.

It uses windows media player. It doesn't need to launch windows media player to do this. Instead the biab window has a windows media player embedded into it, and that plays the file. So it plays instantly, without a wait time to open windows media player.

It sounds like in your case that windows media player is encountering an error with your interface. Does the same issue happen when you use WMP in general, outside of Band-in-a-Box.

Try visiting the Audio Settings window, locate the "ASIO Always On" there and try UNchecking that.

Different drivers from different aftermarket soundcards will behave differently, but on some this may work, so worth a try.

"Lazy" was a misnomer; I was actually working at the time (on a machine running Vista) and had no binness being on here at all. I was just trying to be cute. Apparently it worked. laugh

Thanks very much for replies again.

I think I have found out what is causing it. When I switch on my fast track, it was automatically setting itself up as the default playback device in sound in control panel and knocking out the speakers and the windows media sound, but once the fast track is off it reverts to speakers being default. Windows media player always works perfectly when the fast track is off.

Sometime in the past I must have set the fast track as the default in sound in control panel when it was switched on which caused the problem, and it was keeping those settings once it was switched on again.

I have set the speakers as default again and the fast track seems to be keeping that setting as now whether its switched on or off.

Everything seems to be playing fine now, thank you all very much for the help.

USB Sound Devices, if plugged in or turned on AFTER Band in a Box has been started, usually cannot be recognized by BB.

Its a drag, I'm always olugging in some USB MIDI or Audio device while working in BB and then remembering that BB has to be shut down completely, then plug in the USB device, wait a few seconds for Windows to find the device, then star up BB again.
