First time I boot up 2014 I get a loud alarm beep from the PC and a yellow message telling me I have unnecessary RT files and to delete them - and how. However I am on XP and when I go to do it advises NOT to as it may affect speed. How do I kill THIS PARTICULAR MESSAGE please? Ian

I had something fairly similar, i had in my RT picker sets 206, 207, and 208 all were N/A seems that these were sets that were bonus sets back a ways. So i might have those bonus disks around the studio somewhere, and did not load them when I switched computers recently. I wonder if something like that might be your issue.

Please let me know the exact message that appears. With version 2014, it is easy to retrieve the exact message, since they are saved in log file. Choose Menu-Help-Show Message Log file, and notepad will launch. Then find the message, and post it back here.

Hi Peter Here is the screenshot of Notepad. You will see that I've played around with Biab a few times and each time I boot it up from cold, I get the message. If I then go to Opts - Preferences - Real Tracks settings - and hover over the "Erase Un-needed +/- files" I get a message that tells me NOT to do it because I'm using XP, but check the "Use the +/- Realtracks instead" I have done this - my question is - How do I stop the original yellow message coming up every time I log on? cheers ian

Thanks for sending the screen shot. Since it is a "Flash Tip", rather than a Flash Message, you're in luck, and you can eliminate that message by main menu-Edit-Prefs- and set "Show Flash Tips" to false.
btw, I would recommend that you erase the un-needed files as per the recommendation. We stopped including the extra files in 2012, so if you've been able to play any of our RealTracks that we made from 2012 to current, then you're machine is fine, and you can safely erase them, by choosing "Erase Un-needed +/- files". Note that no new customer of Band-in-a-Box has got these +/- files for 3 years now, and there hasn't been a problem.

Hi Peter thanks for coming back. I wouldnt want to stop ALL the flash tips - I know how to do that. Some of them are useful especially when I've been messing between RTs and midis and it reminds me that I have to go to "undo" to get them back etc etc. Can I not just suppress THIS tip, or is it all-or-nothing? From the way I read Peter's answer and advice, deleting the files it is asking you to delete will eliminate that message and not cause any trouble. The files should end up in the recycle bin so if you find you need/want them back you can recover them (as long as you haven't emptied the recycle bin).

Do it from inside Band in a Box, in the Prefs->RealTracks, don't try to go in there yourself and delete files. Here it will be a one click intelligent solution. And, I might add, works just fine on the older XP laptop I keep around here. I performed that routine back in 2012. With the advent of the Elastique Stretch Engine inside Band in a Box, there is no longer a need to store 3 or 4 each of the raw Realtracks in order to be able to have them change keys. Once you perform that function to remove the excess RealTracks, the error message you get should go away - AND, you'll gain a bit more disk space as well. --Mac

I agree with this advice, however you appear to have something else going on (your other thread about BIAB taking way too long to boot up). If it were my machine, I would go after that problem first, in case you are dealing with malware or some hardware problem.
BIAB 2025 Win Audiophile. Software: Studio One 7 Pro, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6, Song Master Pro, Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Roland Integra-7, Presonus 192 & Faderport 8, Royer 121, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors.

I would do the opposite, remove those extra RealTracks files and then perform the Defrag, as there is no need to take the extra time to defrag the unneeded files, as well as the fact that they will leave "holes" in the contiguous disk space if you defrag first and then remove all those files. --Mac

Hi Matt The slow boot up was resolved. Its Kaspersky AV doing it. I pause Kaspersky now when booting BIAB up and that has sorted that one. I deleted the files through Prefs - Real Tracks etc an all is well. The message has gone BUT the PC still darned well alarm beeps when the GUI comes on for the first time. Go figure that one! cheers ian

OK, we were thinking along similar lines. I don't like doing anything with files if there is a chance a virus is running.
Sounds like you are making progress and you can run Defrag again, now that you have taken out the superfluous RealTracks.
About the beep, have you disabled the Windows default sounds in the Control Panel? For anyone running a good sound card, it's best to disable those. Otherwise you can hear very load beeps etc. through your audio system with the volume turned up.

Hi Matt Yes _ I run a good sound card (Creative Audigy) and the Windows "sounds" are OFF. The "beep" comes from the PC tower, not the external monitors anyway. It SEEMS to coincide with the "style" box being filled with information, a few milliseconds after the GUI comes up. (Its blank in that field when the GUI first appears - only for those few millisecs though). I guess I can live with it as everything else works OK. And I'm getting used to and getting to like the new GUI. Damn!!! cheers ian

Ian, Under Preferences, have a look and see if "Beep with messages" is on. It's on the very first screen when you open Prefs. Regards, Noel

Noel has a good thought. I turned that off so long ago, I forgot it was there.

Anyone who is working with Music Programs and either Amplified Monitor Speakers or Headphones, should not only toggle off all the beeps and such from inside any pertinent programs they run, but should also turn all Windows System Sounds to off by selecting None via the Control Panel sounds windows.
Preserve both your hearing, your sanity, AND your tweeter drivers.

--Mac Couldnt agree more. However - this "beep" is coming from inside the Tower unit, wherein lies, I understand, an alarm beeper. Its that little fella that I'm wanting to silence when I boot up BIAB. cheers ian

Are you saying that what Noel96 told you above did not work to eliminate the BEEP?
