There are two things that can cause that, John.

First one is your machine's USB capabilities and driver. May or may not be solvable, but worth checking out the mfr's website support section for your mobo and looking for a BIOS flash upgrade. Then look for a newer USB driver as well.

The second issue may have to do with the program you are using to open up the WAV files. If, for example, you are loading multitracked wav files into a multitracking DAW program, sometimes having all those wav files in a nice contiguous piece of disk space can cause the halting and sputtering.

The free "Interleave" proggie may help.

Try the proggie first, may solve the problem without resorting to the pains and dangers of flashing the BIOS.

If you do have to resort to BIOS flash, do like I do and power the puter from a good known working UPS so that a power failure or bump on the AC line doesn't take out the mobo (!).
