Not really an acronym, the file suffixes for BB songfiles do indicate what kind of songfile each one is.

The ".sgu" suffix, the s stands for "Song" - and indicates a songfile in which there is no specified Melody entered onto the Melody track.

The ".mgu" suffix indicates a songfile that has that Melody entered onto the Melody track. That would be a MIDI Melody.

When you have questions about Band in a Box, you can get many answers a lot faster by visiting the FAQ page here. Be advised that a FAQ for 2014 has yet to be written, but the good news is that a lot of situations for usage and knowledge such as this are the same for the older FAQs.

All of my Forum Posts here list the Hotlink to the PGMusic FAW pages in my dot.sig at the bottom of each of my posts.

Bookmark the link, and learn how to use the ctrl-f on the displayed page to rapidly search the page for something. In this case, entering ".sgu" and using the arrow key would certainly get you to the FAQ that explains each of the BB suffixes. There are more than just two...

Anyway if I can get some of those files from people that really know this program maybe I can analyze the settings and learn from them. I know this this program and all the real tracks in the hands of the experienced can do some wonderful things. I hope to be there in a year with some study.

Assuming you've installed BB in total or already have the full version in hand from shipping, you already have the BEST songfiles for that, written at PGMusic by the PGMusic experts, in the form of the Demo Songs.

The RealTracks Demo Songs folders contain them all as full BB files. Whenever a new version of BB is released, I like to spend pleasant time using the Jukebox feature to navigate to each of the new RealTracks demosong folders and set the Jukebox to play them all in a row, once each, without repeating at end of list. That is done by simply UNchecking all of the defaults at LH side of Jukebox window and then using the dropdown slot at bottom to Browse to a folder. I run these songs in the backround while doing things like Posting here. If I here something I really like, I just bop on over to the BB screen and see what it is, make a note of it in notepad with a quick copy 'n paste from the Songtitle window slot, can investigate further at my leisure.

These can also be accessed from the Stylepicker Window, at top right, where, "Load Demo Song" will load the PGMusic Demo Song right onto the Chord Sheet where you can play it back and watch it work, investigate the layout procedures, the indicators, etc. Find something you dig, hit Stop and investigate how it was implemented. Take note of things like the Red box around a Bar Number on the ChordGrid, that would indicate a hidden setting such as Bar Settings.

Have Fun,
