In the Leadsheet window, I figured out how to display 2 separate parts. (ie - melody and piano). However, is it possible to display ONLY the treble clef of one part, along with the bass clef of another?
Specifically, I want to learn how to play "Bread and Butter Blues - LHBLZ1.STY Demo" and would like to play from the leadsheet window (or print it out). However, the default leadsheet display shows both clefs (treble and bass) for each part (melody and piano). Since the bass clef of the melody part and the treble clef of the piano part each contain no notes, in this case they are useless. I'm left with four clefs being displayed and I have to sight read from the top and bottom clefs only. I'd rather have those 2 clefs displayed closer together.
Can someone help me out with this?
Thanks!

Hi newbert,
I first always go to the Notation View (NOT the Leadsheet window yet) and, selecting each track in turn, visit the Options window via the button at top left of Notation view, and set each track to display how I wish using the dropdown slot for transposition and Clef sorting.
I think this is like a Global sort of setting where the Leadsheet gets some of its information.
Once that's done, I then click on the leadsheet view and since that is a true WYSIWYG situation, I use the options there to further work the thing.
A good thing to do is always use the Print Preview button before printing, that is the ultimeat WYSIWIG - "What You See Is What You Get" - and saves ink, time and paper.
Experiment around with those settings in the leadsheet Options and such, there are unfortunately far too many for me to go into any sort of detail here, and besides, that's what I always end up doing anyway. But I usually can get it to display things how I need them displayed at the time.

--Mac Well, that's exactly what I've been trying. In the Notation View, I've already transposed the key and split the clefs where I wanted them to split. But I don't see anyway to display only treble OR bass clef there. But in the leadsheet window, there IS a way to display only one clef or the other - but unfortunately it appears to be a global setting. In other words, that setting is applied to ALL parts, and can't be applied to individual parts. I would like to display Treble Clef (only) for one part and Bass Clef (only) for another. Maybe there's simply no way to do this? Thanks!

I'll have to find the time to check it out fully in the new version before being able to pursue this further, axe.
Gotta find out if this may be a bug or whatever. See if I can duplicate it at my end, that sort of thing.
Send me a PM here, I'll give you an email address to attach your particular problem file if you like, that could speed the process.

Hi Bert, Something else to try that might help is ... 1. Go to the Leadsheet view. 2. Click on OPT (#1) 3. Deactivate AUTOSET CLEFS (#2) 4. Activate which clefs you'd like to be present (#3, #4). Regards, Noel

Yes, I already tried that, Noel. It seems that's a global adjustment that affects all parts. It's seems like it's an either-or proposition. Either treble OR Bass Clef on ALL parts. It looks like you can't set one for one part and the other for another part. Thanks. Regards, Noel

WHY would you want to do that on one sheet? The function is for creating separate Leadsheet parts, not a Full Score. --Mac

Hi Bert, I just tried it again and it worked for me. 1. I selected the Piano track - (P) in image below. 2. When AutoSet Clefs was active, the score looked like the below. 3. When I deactivated the AutoSet Clefs and only had a tick present in the Bass option, my display looked like the below. Is this the solution you're after or have I misunderstood your initial post? Regards, Noel

Regards, Noel Yes, that's how it works - but only on a single part (track) at a time. CTRL-Click on another track (I've been calling them parts...) so that two tracks are highlighted. You can then display either both clefs for both tracks OR bass clefs for both tracks OR treble clefs for both tracks. But I want to simultaneously display treble clef for one track along with bass clef for another track. (The song I'm working with has piano in the melody track (on treble clef) and also in the piano track (on bass clef).) I want to display both tracks so that I can play the bass (piano track) with the left hand and the melody (also happens to be piano) with the right. So far, I haven't found a way to do that. Thanks.

Hi Bert, I understand what you mean, now. What you ask for is beyond BIAB's capabilities. If I were you, I'd have a play around with MuseScore. It's freeware and will do what you want. There are a number of videos on Youtube that will help you learn MuseScore. One other thought is to save the piano track as a midi. That's only possible if the track has a midi piano on it, or the Realtrack has a Realchart associated with it. When you've done that, you'll be able to read the saved midi into BIAB and put it on the melody track. Firstly you'll need to change the Melody track type to 16 channels. The Piano track midi would be saved on Channel 3. Using the green SEQ button, you should then be able to read in Channel 3 of the midi file and place it on the Melody track. I'm not sure if the above will work but it's what I'd try. Regards, Noel

Ctrl-clicking on M and on P in the leadsheet window, I get treble clef for Melody plus treble and bass clef for Piano.
To display just treble clef for Melody and bass clef for Piano, try Edit "Copy/Move tracks ..." to copy the content of the piano track onto the melody track while keeping the content of the melody track.
Then displaying treble and bass clef of just the melody track should get you to second base.

For the sake of this clumsy but effective workaround, I assume your material is in the melody and the soloist tracks.
1. Go to "leadsheet display". If the track for which you want only treble clef is underneath, close the window and "tell" BIAB to swap M and S tracks, then return to "leadsheet display".
2. Preview graphics. If there are problems other than the undesired clef, go back and fix them and return.
3. Use the "SAVE++" button to save all the leadsheet pages as separate JPG images. Use the high-res option for the best printout later.
4. Use a JPG editor, such as Photoshop or Gimp, on each page to cut the rectangular region for the undesired clef, then to select and slide up the region for the remaining two clefs so they have the vertical spacing you want. In the process, particularly after page 1, you'll probably want to move the top of page 3 to the bottom of page 2, slide up the rest of page 3, and so on.
5. Cut the bottom notation "<song title> page x" and replace it with your own notation as necessary.
6. Save each page, preferably with a new name. Now print them.
Clumsy, but it worked for me.
-Mel

BiaB is first and foremost a song-generation software. The notation feature is a convenience they threw in long ago and have not updated in years. A third party tool would likely be faster/better than the above suggestion, but would likely incur extra cost and also still require extra effort. FWIW I enjoy reading creative work-arounds like QuipRosen posted. There's always a way to get 'er done!
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!
