If that does works "rinse and repeat" for all such sub folders

Did that last night, no joy. I'll try it again, though. Right now, I've got copies of all the Instruments everywhere at every level from Instruments on down through Band-in-a-Box through Band-in-a-Box\Band-in-a-Box and no joy.

As an aside: A Final thought (this is just to visually confirm what's going on when HI-q instruments are working) when you click on a part/track and insert a Hi-Q sound (let's say it's the Piano part in the mixer)

You KNOW you have to click on the "Piano" tab of the VSTi/DXi plug-ins window to see the instrument change in part/channel of the ST DXi GUI. IT WILL NOT show up in the "Default Synth" VSTi/DXi GUI window, even if that is already SampleTank (either as a VSTi or DXi)

I've been RightClicking on the Mixer's main view slot where the chosen Patch is identified, which brings up the same exact submenu choices as hitting Patches tab first and then RightClicking.

And, besides, it works with the Bass and a few others, but inside the BB SampleTank choices window, they don't have that "++" error message on them.
