As it occupies 80GB, to free up some C drive space I want to move BIAB/RB on to a separate drive. I'm expecting that any drop in response time would be extremely minimal, probably close to unnoticeable when absorbed in the generate/regenerate operation.
As it doesn't install as a program, make Registry entries etc, but just installs to its own folders on the C drive from where it operates, am I correct in the belief that the way to go is simply to copy the bb, bbvideos and RealBand folders over to the new drive/location and crate a new shortcut to suit?
And just as a safety check, is it indeed correct that nothing gets dropped anywhere else during installation that would also need to be dealt with?
Thanks.

You should just be able to copy the BB folder to another drive and create a new shortcut. If you auto-launch BB files from Windows, then you'll probably need to go back into BB and re-associate files, so that Windows knows where the executable is now. You should also double check to see that RealTracks and RealDrums are pointing to the right location.
Otherwise, I believe it should work fine.
I would rename the old folder on the C: drive (just put an exclamation point in front of the name or some such) to make sure nothing is inadvertently being picked up from the original folder, then once you have tested everything, then just delete the original folder on the C: drive and reclaim your space.

Thanks for that, and especially for the pickup on RealDrums and RealTracks pointers ... that hadn't occurred to me.
I assume those are altered via: Opt > Preferences > RealDrums/RealTracks > Use custom folder ... ?

That's right. Had to do the same when I decided to install on a different drive. It's fairly smooth.

I just moved the RTs & RDs folders to an outboard drive and left the progs on the C drive. Went into BIAB and RB and re-pointed to the new folder locations. Went flawlessly.

One caution ...
Silvertone's solution is a good one because the bulk of the 80 GB is taken up by RTs and RDs.
If you are moving the whole program, and it's version 2014 (if it's version 2013 or earlier, it's not a problem), it might pay to deactivate the program first. I'm not sure if it will be necessary to reactivate once you're copied it to a new location but it seems logical that it might be.
Deactivating before moving will safeguard your three activations.
If Silvertone's approach is followed, I suspect that it won't impact on activation.
Regards, Noel

Another choice is to run the install wizard and select the option that only installs the minimum files needed on "C" drive with everthing else installed on a secondary drive. Then you can compare folders and files between the two drives.

I left the program on my boot drive, and moved the RealTracks and RealDrums to another drive.
As Noel mentions, I don't think we users know the answer whether a move of the program to another location in the same computer requires deactivation and re activation, but it can't hurt to do so.

No, you don't need to deactivate if moving on the same PC. Only if moving to a different PC and you're not planning on using the old one for BiaB anymore.

Was not necessary here, the Activation stays with the computer OS. When my shipped Hard Drive arrived from PG Music, I plugged it in and it was already activated from my download hard drive version. Not a problem. --Mac

To make my installation as quick as possible, I installed just the essentials on the C drive and left the real tracks on the HD and plugged it into the computer's back side USB port to stay connected permanently.
It runs like a champ in this config.

Thanks Noel, Jim, Matt, Mac, Guitarhacker for taking a moment and adding. Always good to have the thoughts and input of others, best way to help learn.
And thanks Peter for that clarification ... one of the things I am impressed by is your continued forum presence with definitive info and useful comment.

It runs like a champ in this config. Do you have a back up of the files on the HD shipped to you? If not, what happens if that drive goes Tango Uniform? Wally G

HANNAY, I usually run BIAB directly from a usb3 HD. This year after receiving the 2014 Everything Pak. upgrade, I decided to just copy it to my C drive without an install. That did not go well. After talking with support 2 times, I deleted my 2013 version and everything containing (bb). Then I started the 2014 install from scratch. It was not going well either. I called support again. Although trying to help, no fix was found. He said let it run and see what happens. I did let it run thru the Christmas parade, a couple movies on Netflix, breakfast Sunday morning and lunch. After 26 and 1/2 hours I was finished . Today, to determine if my laptop was at fault, or was it the P.G. HD, I did --a drag the C drive (bb) to F:/XX usb3 HD. One hour and 50 minutes later BIAB was running. I did the same with RealBand. That was running in very short order. Loading 83 GB in less than 2 hrs., would indicate that I need a P.G. HD replacement. I will now store the replacement HD and use the USB3 as always.------Leon
