Hi, I imported an mp3 karaoke to get me started familiarizing myself with RealBand. And I recorded some vocals on Track 2. But track 2 also recorded track 1 the karaoke. I don't have stereo mix on. I am wearing headphones. Why am I getting the karaoke track recording onto my vocal track? Of course I want it separate. Please let me know.

Could it be that I have my Yamaha Mixer having the pc audio output going to it? And when I am recording I have to unplug that? But I wouldn't hear anything so I guess that isn't it lol

Sly i used to use a Yamaha mixer before i bought my Presonus Audiobox. If I remember correctly you need to take the output of the sound card and send it to a stereo input on the mixer, the patch the group output of the mixer to the input on the sound card. That way if you want to send a track to record like a vocal or guitar you press the group out button on that channel only and it goes to the computer, and the rest go to stereo mix to the main out or headphone out.

Also you will most likely have a group fader by the main fader on the mixer to adjust the level going out to the computer.

thanks for the reply. This is a Yamaha MG82cx. Just a 150 dollar mixer. Pretty cheap. I will upgrade it someday. Not sure what group out means. What you are saying. But I have it Stereo Out to the PC now. There is another two plugs Rec Out that I am not using. Not sure the difference between the two

Stereo out will send the complete mix back to the computer. So you will be getting everything on each track, this particular unit does not have group out. I am looking at the manual right now, and will see if I see a routing option for you.

Thank you for checking out the manual. I have to learn more about mixers. It might be this isn't sophisticated enough of a router to do that. Separate them like that. With what you said before I got that idea. I may have to spend another 300 dollars on something soon if you tell me it can't do it.

Okay sly here is what i have dug up. That mixer does not have group out, or mon mix like the old behringers had.
What you could do to get only the track going out to the sound card is to run the RCA cable coming from the sound card input to either channel 1 or 2 and plug it into the insert jack. This will only go into the first click so that the insert acts as a send.
If you have a manual for it, you can see what kind of jack is required for insert. Other than that there is no way to separate out the signal from the mix.
Before i spent a few hundred on DAW software, plugins, and/or effects i would make the best investment you will ever make, A good solid audio interface. It will be the hear and soul of your system. Presonus, or Focusrite are the two i recommend. Get what you can afford, but what you want to have for a long time. I have the Audiobox 1818 VSL another good choice for those who are doing solo work is the Audiobox 22 VSL
Guitarhacker, one of the guys around here is very high on focusrite and he gets very solid results. Plugin come and go, but the interface or sound card is the foundation you record on.

If you want to go with a mixer and keep the sound card for now get a mixer that has some kind of group or record out. I used a Behringer 602 for years, and it was very solid. it had control room output and that allowed the mix in the headphones, and the track output to the computer. On my Yamaha the group output does the same.

Yes I want to buy a good interface. I wanted this one Akai Professional EIE Pro 24-bit Electromusic Interface Expander. But I am reading some negatives on the driver. Some trouble since it is only getting 3 stars but it looks good. Yours is pretty expensive. But the Audiobox 22 VSL is more ressonable. That Audiobox 22 VSL does this group separation? That small little thing and my yamaha won't ha? That is odd. I will keep researching to see what I can find for 300 dollars or so. I will ask around the forum maybe in another post to get some ideas.
But for now let me try and understand what you are saying. Let me paste it here.
What you could do to get only the track going out to the sound card is to run the RCA cable coming from the sound card input to either channel 1 or 2 and plug it into the insert jack. This will only go into the first click so that the insert acts as a send.
If you could possibly articulate that again. For some reason it just isn't clear to me. See if you said that right. Or clarify it again if you can. Do you want me to have a patch cord from my mic sends to my input of my pc audio line in? Instead of using my stereo out which sends them both?
Under my Mic channels I have INSERT OUT IN is says. Those are 1/4 inch I think. Would I go from that to my Line In instead? Only sending my vocals out? Or above that it says INSERT...or take a cord from Insert to my Line in on my PC?

Most of the interfaces do a good job some have iffy drivers, but the presonus, and Focusrite seem to be solid. Yes you do not need group outs in an interface because it has software routing where you set you mix up, and it handles the job there.

Most of the interfaces do a good job some have iffy drivers, but the presonus, and Focusrite seem to be solid. I agree, Presonus and Focusrite are enjoying good driver support. The whole thing about computer sound devices is: "Drivers, Drivers, and Drivers" All the other bells, whistles and apparent goodies in the world aren't worth a plug nickel if the Drivers don't work well with your computer and chosen softwares. And nothing smacks the creative juices so far into the ground than having the darn thing act up just when you thought of something way cool. --Mac

There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!
Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.
Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
