Hi Folks

I was in Glasgow last week for a one-man show on the Thursday night. I sang three songs in all: 'Welcome To My World' (Jim Reeves), 'Ring Of Fire' (Johnny Cash) and 'Piano Man' (Billy Joel but with re-written lyrics specially for the occasion by me). There is a video of me singing 'Welcome To My World' here: Welcome To My World I hope you enjoy it!

I flew out to Glasgow on the Saturday and, although it was not a paid job, I did not have to pay for anything from when I left until I got back last Saturday. I stayed in a private apartment with the producer and his assistant / girlfriend, who normally live in Sweden but had arrived the day before me to set up the show and film it. They still had not heard me sing so they took me to a karaoke club on the Monday night which was a real dive with ugly bouncers on the door, rude bar staff and an ignorant kj (he refused to let me sing 'Fever' because he said it was a 'girl' song and a man is not allowed to sing a 'girl' song! Idiot! He obviously knew nothing at all about music). I really felt very uncomfortable but was eventually persuaded to sing one number in front of such an ugly crowd. Still, the show must go on so I sang 'House Of The Rising Sun' (The Animals), which was at least very well received by everybody. The kj's song list was only about 3,000 tracks in any case (I have over 10,000) and only listed by song title and not by artist. I got so nervous with the slow development of preparation that I really was not very happy that I only got to start practising on the Wednesday for the show on Thursday. The show was a 'one of' to be filmed live and then shown for a month in the venue so I wanted it all to be right - only one shot at it. The owner of the venue has a mailing list of 1500 but forgot to email them to let them know so, whereas we expected 100-200 people, we only got about 35 or so. The stage was not even built until Wednesday evening, I had to organise the hire of my costume and had problems finding a laptop to borrow to load my backing tracks onto. I insisted on a headset mic because the show would consist of a mix of singing and a hypnosis demonstration that was pre-written as a play. The sound check only happened an hour before the start and I did not meet the guy I was to hypnotise until 10 minutes before the show began. Talk about 'last minute' - there was not even a dress rehearsal. For a 'one man show' I was really very unimpressed by the lack of professionality for the whole event - after all, it was my show that was on the line ultimately...

The Saturday before I flew to Glasgow, my music laptop wiped its own hard drive between leaving home and setting up prior to a 9 hour DJ/KJ gig. It was a nightmare but I borrowed a laptop and managed to get through it. Thank God my tracks are all on a USB HDD. As a result, I had to fight for payment. Janine, my sponsor / girlfriend, found me somebody to repair the music laptop and then ordered me and paid for a top-of-the-line new laptop from the UK, which arrived while I was in Glasgow. The old one isn't back yet and I have to get the new one set up prior to a wedding gig on Saturday.

Janine flew out to Glasgow specially to see the show and is now considering promoting me and producing me here somehow.

Enjoy the video above and if you are on FaceBook, link up with me (just search for 'Heathcote-Parker'). If you are not on FaceBook yet, I strongly recommend you join - it is a great marketing tool.

Apologies for not having been very active lately but my life is a complete mess at the moment. As to when I will be really active on PG again, I still don't know.

Sam

Sorry about that. I thought it was available to all. As the clip is not actually in my posession at the moment, I guess it will have to wait for now...

Perhaps you could post it on your own website or a hidden part of it so you can post a link to the file?

Apparently it has now been posted on YouTube here: Welcome To My World

BTW, I am not walking off stage at the end, in fact I did not leave the stage at all for the next hour. It may be something to do with the lighting (but I don't remember that) or it may be something in the film editing. Not my fault! As I wrote, we never had a chance for a full rehearsal with cameras and lights etc. Still, I hope you folks enjoy it

No, there's never a dull moment in my life. Its fraught with all manner of twists and turns. If anybody ever gets shocked or surprised at what is going on, I always start singing this song to them - I find it somewhat ironic. In fact there is a Chinese curse: 'may you live in interesting times'

I never viewed that old Chinese saying as a curse, actually.

Good job on the performance, Sam.

Keep working on nailing your intonation. Develop the ears daily.

And keep dressing for success like that.

Thank you very much for the compliments, guys! Remember, I was under severe stress and this was the opening number WITH NO REHEARSAL! High praise indeed from you, Mac (considering the circumstances). Yes, perfection is my aim.

Has anybody ever watched my showreel here? It was made last autumn for a TV company in the UK - all original material I took all of the photography (apart from the opening shots, which were taken by my brother-in-law in his professional studio); wrote, arranged, mixed and recorded all of the music tracks; and directed the film footage. Of course, I starred in it too! The editing was done by my ex g/f, Monika

If you haven't yet seen the film, enjoy

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
