I know this isn't band in a box but you guys have been really helpful in getting me out of difficult situations and I'm hoping you can offer some good advise again.

Playing around with Midi (from EZkeys Pianos which I installed today) in studio One for the first time and I'm having a problem matching the tempo of the song.

I created the song in BIAB and the tempo was 105bpm. All wav tracks were imported into Studio One which tells me the song is 120bpm. Didn't think much of it until today. Now I'm trying to add EZkeys Grand Pianos midi file which is also set to 120 bpm to match my sng but the midi tempo is way off. It's not the midi file it's Studio One not reading my song's tempo. I've checked Studio One's Tempo for three songs I've made and they show as 120bpm for each of them. Thats not right so for some reason Studio One is not tracking the tempo? I reckon if I fix that I can get this Midi tempo sorted.

Does anyone know about this and what can I do to fix it please?

Thanks
Paul

Paul,

There is no tempo information in .wav files. The 120 BPM is a default BPM for most DAW software like Studio One.

Your song tempo is whatever it was when you created it, which sounds like it is 105 bpm.

You are going to have a bit of trouble getting MIDI in Studio One to match imported .wav unless you have some distinct count-off which you can trim to in Studio One, and after that is done, then set the tempo in Studio One to 105 bpm.

The bottom line is the .wav files that you imported into Studio One contain no timing information whatsoever. They are not DAW project files which would contain tempo but would be unrecognizable by a different DAW host.

If your BIAB project is basically just midi, and not using real band or any other real audio files, then you should be able to export the MIDI for each track and import that into Studio One, and then use Studio One to contain both the midi output from BIAB, as well as the MIDI from the EZ software, and point the various MIDI tracks in Studio One to the appropriate VSTi.

You must have a higher end version of Studio One, because the base/artist version will not host non-PreSonus VST/VSTi.

If Studio One is like SONAR, it may be able to read the project tempo from a MIDI file, and you want to import that first before your .WAV files. If the tempo of a .WAV file varies, you can use the Audio Chord Wizard and define a tempo map, using the BIAB MIDI file to establish the tempo in your DAW.

OK, so I've created a brand new project and copied BIAB tracks into new 2nd folder so I don't change my original song files in Studio One. BIAB says the song is 150bpm. So I set Studio One not to "Stretch audio files" to match tempo and and to "Follow" Tempo in the Inspector. I selected all tracks and collectively changed the tempo from 120 to 150. The song plays at same tempo as BIAB. BUT the metronome in studio One is faster and out of sync with the song. How can this be?

It cant be this hard can it? I'm beginning to think BIAB is not telling me the correct tempo?

Update: I had two version of the song in BIAB with different tempos and styles. I got the songs mixed up, all sorted and tempo is working - great. Looks like I have to start a new project again cause adjusting the old one put some tracks out of sync strangely.

Thanks for your help guys.
Paul
