How do I tell BIAB (using Realtracks): - to change to sub-style b on the 2nd CHORUS? - when changing to sub-style b, let the bass walk (as is usual) but keep the drums PLAYING BRUSHES (in other words, straight ahead for the drums, don't change anything, keep playing sub-style a). Please don't tell me this isn't possible.

Start with F5
Keep in mind BIAB will default to play the b-sections for all middle choruses unless you change the default (an elusive place to find). Just a matter of making sure the b sections are doing what you want, otherwise, change the RT for the b-sections. Or remove default and just have a differnt RT a-section playing. All done in F5

Or Edit, Unfold the song to one big chorus, and set the part markers and substyles however you want them.

All done in F5 Thanks Dan for letting me know where to attack this. It seems F5 is going to become my favourite BIAB key very soon. I still don't understand however what I should do inside that menu to achieve my desired results. As I mentioned, the 'b substyle' is doing fine for the RealBass part. I just want the RealDrums to keep playing the same way they were playing in the 'a substyle'.

This still doesn't tell me how I'm going to tell BIAB, "At second chorus, bar 3, let the bass play sub-style b, and the drums play sub-style a." I can't see where I can tell BIAB to do this. I see the ability to change Styles completely, but not substyles.

One workaround. 1) Set just section A so it does not go to section b in middle chorus. 2)then play. 3)Then freeze drum track. 4)then set middle chorus to section b. 5) then play again.
Now the bass will change but the drums will stay the same.

That's a clever solution, Dan! I always overlook the freeze function.

One workaround. 1) Set just section A so it does not go to section b in middle chorus. 2)then play. 3)Then freeze drum track. 4)then set middle chorus to section b. 5) then play again. Thanks Dan. That is a clever workaround however... I'm not quite there yet. Using Dan's freeze trick, I was able to freeze the drum part so that it plays 'a substyle' on the first and second chorus. Mission accomplished with the drums... The bass however didn't want to cooperate when I clicked on the song settings after freezing the bass. I changed it back to " Vary style in middle chorus" I figured out why. I have my song playing just 2 choruses, which is what I _want. When I changed it to 3 choruses, sure enough the bass started walking in the 2nd chorus. Now a little more info on the style I'm using and the problems I still need to resolve. The Style in question is JazzOrganBass&Comp w/drums (85RS) A-drums brushes; Bdrums sticks A-organ plays in 2, B organ plays walking bass. I don't know yet if I'll go with just the organ and drums or organ drums and acoustic bass. Now for my remaining problems. I need to find a way to have the bass walking for the second chorus when I change back to just two choruses and not three! I would also like to find a way to mute the organ's bass (if I decide to go with an acoustic bass), because the bass and the organ's bass are competing and conflicting with each other. TIA

OK I think I am starting to get the hang of tricking BIAB. "I need to find a way to have the bass walking for the second chorus when I change back to just two choruses and not three!" I applied the ol' freeze tracks trick for the organ part. Then I switched the song back to 2 choruses. That psyched out BIAB! Totally fooled it. Except for the ending, where it doesn't quite know what to do anymore. It sounded like a confused band where one member wants to end and another wants to keep playing. "I would also like to find a way to mute the organ's bass (if I decide to go with an acoustic bass), because the bass and the organ's bass are competing and conflicting with each other." This would be neat if I could mute the organ's bass part. Is this possible?

I do believe this is possible. But my day has come to an end. Others will chime in. And I will be back tomorrow. Keep at it.

I need to find a way to have the bass walking for the second chorus when I change back to just two choruses and not three! You do not need to have a middle chorus (that is 3 choruses) to invoke a b-substyle. You simply need to unfold the tune to one chorus and then place the different substyes where ever you want by inserting part markers. The old "play b-substyle in middle chorus" is actually a hold over from early days. Once the unfold came along the abilty to place part markers anywhere, we had much more flexiblity and this older feature not needed so much.

We are talking RT's here, right? So there is not really any easy way to adjsut what the audio files play - even the syles do not effect the RTs. But there are a aweful lot of RT's. Isn't there an Organ RT with bass and another one without Bass? Now that you have found the F5 you can substitute RTs at any place in the song. Keep at it - BIAB is like the swiss army knife of music apps. There is "almost" always a way to get it done.

Thanks Dan. I didn't know that. Is there a simple way to 'unfold' a two chorus tune or do I need to copy all the chords twice, manually? We are talking RT's here, right? Yes we are talking RT's. I only have a Organ style that has walking bass on the 'b' section. If there are other styles with organ and no walking bass on b section please let me know. Also if there are jazz organ styles with NO bass?

Not a big fan of Organs. Don't know what the fascination is with the eerie sounds. If you got all the RTs you simply have to search for the options. I do seem to see an awful lot of them so you may get lucky.

OK thanks Dan. Overall I'm not a huge fan of the organ sound either. In this case I'm going after the Wes Montgomery jazz sound and he frequently played with just organ and drums.
