I get a registry error when trying to use the Hi-Q midi sounds. Can't use them. Anyone else encounter this? If so, how did you fix it?
I've tried installing off the hard drive and downloading SampleTank directly from IK Multimedia, and have the same issue.
I'm running Windows 8, if that makes any difference. SampleTank works on my Windows 7 laptop, but not on my Windows 8 desktop.

I'm not sure if this is any help as I don't have Windows 8.
Have you tried running Band In A Box as administrator? I had a similar registry error with SampleTank on my Windows 7 desktop machine after I moved BIAB and RealBand to another drive - and choosing "run as adminstrator" for BIAB and RealBand fixed it.

Hi Richard, yes this clears up the problem, thanks! Ok, so others have seen this before. I would call the "run as administrator" a workaround rather than a fix. Anyone out there fixed this problem?

Hi Elkayem, I don't think it's a workaround but rather a requirement of SampleTank. The following is a quote from IK Multimedia on the KVR forum:
"All our LEGACY plug-ins including SampleTank 2.x were developed before the restrictions on system folders were introduced in Windows. SampleTank for example expects to be able to write Presets and the instrument database in it's installation folder (typically c:\Program Files\IK Multimedia) at RUN time. To grant this privilege to SampleTank when it is ran inside a DAW, the only possibility is using Run As Administrator on the DAW (or our standalone) executable file."
They went on to say that the next version of SampleTank will not have this requirement as it will not need to write to a system folder at runtime.

Thank you for that detail! Guess I will be running as administrator from now on. I imagine that a lot of users are suffering from this feature. Odd that I don't encounter it with my Windows 7 laptop.

I am having this issue too.
Have added permissions to the folders, but Sampletank inside BIAB says it's not running with Admin privileges.
If I run BIAB as ADMIN, it disables the Forte DXI synth and it wants to be re-activated. When I do put the serials back in - it forgets next time.
Sampletank can not see the tgs files.
I have had no issue like this ever with Amplitude.

Hi Tom,
You mention that you have added permissions to the folders. Have you added permissions to bbw.exe as I suggested too?

Sorry to be following two threads.
I always log in as admin. I added the user profile as 'allow read/write everything' as well in bbw.exe.
Did the same in ST directory.
I can see the ST GUI if I select "Melody" for example and choose ST. But, picking an instrument sample is where it continues to be failing.
Here's the rub, starting BIAB as 'Run as Administrator' causes Forte to be disengaged as synth. It forgets that it's authorised and requests serial numbers again. Odd.
Will have a closer look in a couple hours at home.
Then, I'm getting on the horn with PG support!
Will post at 1pm eastern time.
