It's been many months since I setup my RB 2013. Suddenly RB began to act strange. I could record audio on a track set to stereo (only one channel would show that a wave was written) if I set a track to mono nothing is written ??? When I examined my Audio settings they were reset to MME though I always use ASIO. I just can't remember how all these settings should be?

M-audio 410 firewire
Help appreciated

Hi strat,

Here are my audio settings that seem to work ok (if it helps). I use and internal soundcard and I'm on a 32-bit operating system.

Regards,
Noel

P.S. When you get your settings up and running again, try saving an image of what they are and then it will be easy to return to them if things get changed in the future. I never trust computers.

Sounds like you have only a single (working) input connected, and likely on the right channel. Which is why it shows when a stereo track is recorded.
The reason it doesn't is because of the default Mono channel selection in Noel's image.

Change the default left to right and a Mono track will likley record.

Don't know what is wrong with the left side connection in your system..

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Yeah.... what they said.

Be sure that you have selected the proper input and the correct side of the input.....left or right.

IIRC even a mono input needs to be selected properly... in my case it's the left stereo input for mono.

A lot of native ASIO drivers use each Input as a Stereo Pair.

It is up to the user to know and understand that, and to do their audio Input cablings accordingly.

Thanks all of you, I have been out playing so my response is somewhat delayed, I'm gonna try out your suggestions but still Wonder what has set my system to MME?

MME is the default Audio selection although you still need to highlight the required driver. Any number of glitches can remove the ASIO setting. Similarly, Midi drivers can become deselected also say at a forced program closure for what ever reason.

All I can think of is that the new install of 2014 did it.

I was doing some playback of some tunes for a buddy about a week or so back.... when all of a sudden the DAW started sputtering on playback.... the music went to halftime and sounded horrid. I restarted the playback and it made it further into the song before I stopped it and loaded a new tune.

This problem popped up a few days ago while working on recording a new tune.

Long story short, I went to the audio preferences and found the driver had been switched to MME. I certainly did not do that and no one else uses this DAW. The only new software was BB2014.

I switched the default driver back to ASIO and everything was smooth as silk yesterday.

If RB was ever shut down "ungracefully" as in a Freeze, Crash, or whatever, rather than the user closing the program, such things can and do happen.

There is a way to Reset the program when things get too out of hand, back to factory settings, see the FAQ pages for RB and PT for details, although one can just go into the Prefs and restore the ASIO driver operation in this case and likely will be fine.

I've never decompiled nor looked at the code, but it might be that the difference between use of MME or ASIO is just a Boolean toggle. That could be one bit and if the one gets changed to a zero, there ya go.

That could also "splain it" .... I think I do recall a boot up on the DAW where it didn't quite boot up and nothing would work..... an unceremonious power off later.......

Since i have downloaded 2014 i have had RB lose it's drivers three time so far, i open it and it says no drivers chosen, i select them and they are already there, but don't work until i close the preferences window. Very weird.

Defragged your C drive lately?

Fragmented driver file or fragmented RB due to the recent installation could cause those kind of problems.

Defraggler program, free from Piriform, is better than the Windoze defrag by far. Bing it if you don't already have it.

Also make good and sure that your C drive has at least 15% Free Space before defragging. More Free Space is better.
