My tuner is stuck on "B". I can see minor response to audio input, but it does not detect changes in pitch. I am on Windows 7 64-bit.

I can RECORD audio fine. Audacity records audio. I am assuming the tuner uses my default audio input.. I have an M-Audio Fast Track Ultra (and will admit I don't understand all the controls, software returns etc.)but have tried fiddling with all the sliders to no avail.

Any thoughts? I know I should use my ear, but still like the comfort of my PC agreeing I am in tune,,,

Opts. - Preferences - Audio Tab
Click Audio Drivers and make sure your input driver in BiaB matches the one you are using.

To use Tuner.exe with any sound device other than the built in soundcard you have to use the Windows Control panel to set up the aftermarket sound device as the default Windows System Sounds device. Be sure to have Tuner program shutdown completely before doing the switchover, then open the program.

Alternateively, you may be able to use the Tuner via the built in sound device if the computer has a built in mic but you would have to open the builtin sound applet by doubleclicking on the little speaker in the taskbar, then use the File Options to go to the Record Options and make the mic hot, also adjust the volume fader for that mic appropriately. Then anything heard "in the air" in your room should be picked up and sent to the Tuner program. Sounds like that is what is happening at your end already, but perhaps the mic fader for Record is turned down, or the Mute may activated. Important to make sure the Playback fader for that mic is Muted, or feedback can occur.

It is likely not responding for you at the moment because the Windows OS is still set to use the internal soundcard.

BTW Tuner.exe can run standalone if desired. It is located in the bb folder and a Copy can be made and placed on the Desktop or anywhere else and yield a handy Chromatic Tuner available nearly instantly. Nice.

Thanks. I have actually disabled all sound devices except the M-Audio in Devices. I may go and do that in the BIOS. My defaults work with BIAB, Real Band, Audacity etc...

Yeah, Tuner.exe was written a long time ago, somewhere around when Win95 was the big new thing, maybe even earlier than that.

It has sometimes taken that bit of fiddling with OS settings and all, but I've always managed to find out how to get it to work, its a great little app that I use quite frequently rather than carry around one of those dedicated tuners when I've already got the laptop along.

You can even use Tuner.exe to set up guitars or tune keyboards.

I'd guess around W95 also .. W98 at the latest. I wish they would update these older plugins. For example Parametric EQ; it is available as a hard write utility but not a realtime plugin. Seems they made all the others into realtime plugins but not the parametric EQ.

I complained once, long ago .. and have since found alternatives, but some features should really be updated so us old guys aren't the only ones knowing about them.
