Jim, I'm sure there's a way to do it in BB or RB. I personally don't trust computers enough to use them while playing live and running my music specific programs.
Every time I have played my music in church, I have always burned a CD. Yeah I know a CD can glitch too, but that is rare. I've seen my computer (laptop) crash right in the middle of doing nothing.....
I'd open the tune in a DAW like real band, apply the envelopes to accomplish what you need and burn a CD of the morning or evening's music. A CD is reliable and inexpensive.
I'm old skool and that's how I would do what you are trying to accomplish.

There are those of us who value using BB in live performance situations because of the fact that it can generate slightly different performances as versus the static playback of an audio backing track.
Especially in situations where songs get repeated from week to week or day to day. Seems like a small thing, but sometimes the little things make the big differences.

I'm not knocking it Mac.....
I've seen many players using Sonar live..... never BB but I don't get out and around much....
Just offering another option I'm sure he's already considered

Those slightly different regenerations are a feature that only Band in a Box delivers.
Important to some of us.
Even when freezing something like that Strings track, having the other tracks be played a bit differently every time the song is loaded is the reason many of us lug the laptop and use BB during the Live Performances.
Heck, sometimes I even take a sec to change the Style on a song to another that matches the Prototype before hitting the Play button. Now we're havin' fun...

I have been using BIAB on Dell laptops at my church at least twice a week for over 6 years and I could count on one hand the number of times that either the computer or BIAB has malfunctioned (and who knows, those instances could have been operator error of some kind). I'd say that's pretty trustworthy. To me, it's not worth the time and trouble to burn a CD, plus I would give up the ability to change a song on the spur of the moment, add one that wasn't planned, change the song order at the last minute, etc.
And like Mac says, the minor variations that come with a fresh generation of the song each time it is used are nice - very nice, indeed.
I just finished rehearsal for this Sabbath, and found the sequence of steps I listed above (in my last message) to work without fail. So I guess that's the solution. The main trick was to play only the last 3-4 bars after entering the expression fade on the ending chord so it wouldn't regenerate, then freeze the strings track and resave the song. Clicking on play (as I had previously been doing) almost always causes regeneration which loses the fade for some reason, even if the song has been resaved before playing.
Still wish I knew how or where to simply turn off the legato feature...anybody?

Oh dear, I don't think you're understanding how that feature works. The String Arrangement itself uses an orchestration method to arrive at that legato situation. As old as violin sections themselves, the idea is that, if you have two or three strings playing in harmony and the chord changes, there is likely going to be one of the harmony parts that is going to be playing the same note for the next chord, so why write it such that that section or player stops playing that note, only to have to initiate an attack on the same note again in the next chord? Think about a simple chord transition, let's say it is a C Major Triad, moving to an F Major Triad. Regardless of Inversion, the notes for the C would be C,E,G. To change that to an F it would become possibly C,F,A. Since that C is the same not in both cases, why lift it and then hit it immediately again? You can try this on your MIDI keyboard easily enough by doing the above, and holding that C throughout the change, and then again lifting all fingers off the keys and hitting the F chord with all three notes inititiating to hear the difference. So the rule is that if a note is already being played and it is also a useful note for the next chord, don't stop the playing of that note during the transition. Legato literally translates to, "smooth". And that is hard coded into the style or part as notes, it is not something overlaid as a global command or anything like that. You either choose the new legato strings and get the better, likely more realistic sound, or you have the option of choosing one of the many older Strings from another style that don't have that feature. BTW I tried your file here and it worked the first shot. Am still investigating, though. --Mac

Mac, I have understood from the beginning basically how the legato feature works, but your last post did add a detail I hadn't seen mentioned before - that some strings styles use it and some don't. If what you say is correct, I'll have to figure out if the strings in the styles I'm using on these slow worship songs are using the legato feature or not. I didn't know it was "style dependent." But if the string styles I'm using are not using the legato feature, then why would the strings volume reduction I previously had programmed in the first bar of the final held chord no longer work, at least on some notes (most likely any notes that were already playing in the previous bar)? It seems to me that the legato feature is the reason that volume change is not happening since I upgraded to 2014. The reason I thought the legato feature could be turned off globally or per song is because Peter said we could in a previous post in this thread: Yes, you can turn the feature off, either for a single song, or entirely. For a single song, you do it via the main menus - edit - song settings But as I said before, I have been unable to find what he referred to anywhere.
