Stereo songmix, but one side is "Electro" while the other is "Organic" and both can be listened to at the same time for a 3rd Mix sound. Have your Pan or Balance control at the ready: [video:youtube] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7v90on4MRc#t=77[/video] While they are calling it, "Stereo 3-Way" -- not too many may realize that the original Stereo reproduction system consisted of three channels, but marketers thought that three speakers and three amplifiers wouldn't be something the people would buy at the time, but the people who already possessed a mono system wouldn't mind buying one more speaker and amp to hear the new idea, which they called "stereophonic" but in reality is "binaural" recording, very few have actually experienced a true stereo recording made for the original 3 channel system and played back on one. I don't have a pan control for YouTube playback, unfortunately - over headphones at least.
I'll see if I can find an audio only example of the above. Right now, it simply sounds hard panned with some low frequency stuff sitting mono and maybe some of the background rhythm being mono. Not unpleasant, however.
As terminology has been used, repurposed, compromised, etc. - nowadays, Binaural can mean many things.
In the non-music, engineering world like for recording noises in vehicles, binaural recording refers to use of a dummy head like those from Neumann, G.R.A.S., Head Acoustics, and Brüel & Kjær. I used those from Head Acoustics for about 15 years. Because of the head related transfer function that is physically 'built-in' to the dummy head and shoulders, it was far more 3-dimensional than any of the more typical two-microphone techniques whether it's X-Y, separated pair, Blumlein, etc. To hear the full effect of a 'binaural' recording made with a dummy head, it almost required headphone playback rather than two speaker playback in a room. The recordings have much more 'height' and 'depth' than a typical, non-head related 2 mic recording.
In the audiology world, binaural response simply means something to do with both ears. I have to remind myself of this often as I deal with audiologists in my new day job.
Perhaps in the more general case, binaural might mean something like "a different signal presented to left ear than right ear"
As a sort of tangent, one thing I had set up in my cheapo listening environment as a teen, was described on the back of a Brian Eno recording; drive a cross-room 3rd speaker with the positives from both left and right out of a 'stereo' amplifier.
This does increase the number of places in the room where 'stereo' effect is noticed, but can also wreak havoc on the amp, so experiment with caution.
With this particular track, I think the Eno technique (my terminology, not his) would probably really light up that 3rd speaker, as most of the signal does not sound to be common between left and right channels.

I connected the laptop with the hifi and used the panning controls there.

It's been so long that I've messed with the Windows volume control, I forgot that there are indeed pan controls on the 'Open Volume Control' properties.
As for cans, I'm using custom in-ear monitors, so it's either you have it fully inserted, or you don't hear anything.
So, to my ears it does sound like it's just unique program material fed to Left versus Right. Where does the "Stereo-3-way" aspect come in either in audition of the sound, etc.? As I pan one way or the other, I really am not hearing what just sounds like hard panned signals.
I might be missing something here, so help me understand what is unique about this if that's o.k. One type of mono mix is in Left, the other is in Right - is there some magic I'm missing out on?

One channel the backing is "Electro" or maybe I should say, "Techno" type.
Other channel is Guitars, etc. the more "organic" instruments.
Vocals are down the center, so you can hear the singing happen in either.
Listening to one side, you hear the singers with a Techno style backing.
Listen to the other side, you hear the singers with a more typically "guitar band" backing.
Listening to both at the same time, well you hear a fuller mix, with aspects of each going on, but it does indeed take on a different aspect or feel from that.

See, I heard the vox hard panned as well. Girl was in left channel, guy in right. I'll have to take another listen. Almost sounded like old George Martin stuff with effects panned opposite of main instrument. I think the first Van Halen album was like that as well with Eddie's guitar.
