...Again, this is plugging in with one end of a cable with the other end just sitting on the desk not plugged into anything.
Whoa, hold on there. Are you saying that merely plugging one end of an audio cable to either an input or an output of the Roland yields this noise? Are you saying that you can leave that unconnected cable plugged in, but pulling the USB connect stops the noise? That can't be a Ground Loop if so. What it might be is an unshielded USB cable, though, or perhaps an unshielded or poorly shielded audio cable. --Mac
