I'm looking for a style I can't seem to find anywhere in BB with it's over 3000 styles.

Some time back, I started to look for a style that would allow me to build songs on a style similar to the old Waylon Jennings outlaw signature style.

This song is very similar to the style I'm looking for. It's basically Waylon's signature style.

Lonesome On'ry and mean

and

Are you sure Hank done it this way

It's a kind of 4 on the floor country beat. I've played songs in this style in bands and it is quarters on the guitar using full chords.....

I ask because today I used the preview and browsed country and rock styles in search of this style and I found nothing even remotely close enough to make it work.

I have 2 people asking me to assist with songs.... one is already written and one is a co-write invite and both songs have this basic Waylon stomp style. It is a very popular style here in NC and several bands formed their basic set list on this style of music.

Any ideas, suggestions, etc, would be appreciated.

I may start looking into how to make this style since I can't find it in the list.

So I looked on Youtube and searched to try to find any videos that are a "how to" guide for using STYLE MAKER.... I can't find anything that explains how to use SM to make a new style....

I have style maker open and don't have a clue what any of that represents.

Any ideas other than call tech support?

If you go to the support section there are some archived videos that I believe go through how to create your own style. Unless you have the everything pack. If so the have tutorial videos that go into style creation pretty thoroughly

Another option is to get a midi file of a song in that style import it and biab has an option to create a style from that

One more is to get an mp3 and load that up run audio chord wizard then make as style..

I am writing this from memory in my manual readings so don't quote my suggestions as gospel on the midi option or the audio option

I found the videos.... they are on the hard drive version.....

I started to poke around with style maker and editing some existing styles..... not exactly what I'd call child's play or intuitive.

I might need to go old skool and record it in the audio world if I can't get a quick handle on making a new style that sounds good.

There is indeed a Style Wizard designed to more easily make a MIDI style from a Standard MIDI file.

Starting with BB2014, you also have the option to roll your own User Tracks to create RealTracks.

Mixing both of those together might also be a good plan, whenever MIDI is mixed together with RealTracks and RealDrums, there is a rather startling effect in which MIDI tracks can sound more realistic.

You might find a style in Bluegrass or some other genre other than Country and Rock. Lots of gems hidden where you least expect to find them. It just takes (a lot of) time.

Herb

A couple of ideas

1: What about Notes Norton's web site? He has some style disks, although not sure if he has what you want, but there are audio samples (mp3).

2: You're also probably aware that BiaB can import a style from a midi File? If you can find a midi file with the style you want, you may be able to generate the style this way.

HTH anyway

Cheers

Trevor

I came up with another idea (think I am going to use this myself)

If you have fl studio you could make a drum and bass line pretty easily then save that as a midi file and create your style in BIAB from that. If you don't have flstudio it is a free fully functional demo download. You can save to midi with the demo. But you couldn't' save the project but who cares... as it's the midi that's the key. And from my experience it is pretty easy to create a simple progression for drum and bass as they have a lot if templates for the drums.... The bass part might be a little more tricky but still is not that hard I have done many.... And I'll betcha that is a whole lot easier learning cure than trying to edit or create a style from scratch in BIAB

Another idea is jammer pro now with all its styles for $119.

Some nice midi styles in there though takes a little more work than biab to get a song together.

With the exception of the guitar riff this song was all done in jammer, wasn't that much work to get the style together.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5twmrLdR8-A

Some nice country, dance and jazz styles there too. I just couldn't find the style I wanted in biab so that's why I used jammer.

No and it seems they don't intend to either, nor for that matter even update the program.

Overall biab wins hands down.

But that is not to say you cant get what you need in jammer for the odd occasion that you need it, usually when you cant get a particular style in biab.

Probably the reason that jammer is being sold cheaply all the support for it has ended, but I still like having it around.

hey i actually played with this and was amazed on how easy it was to make an entirely new style. I simply went into flstudio created a drum line and a bass track using fpc (drum) and boo bass . for the bass line I generated a quick bass line using the groove wizard. I inserted 16 measures of drum and bass. then rendered to midi. This process took 6 min or less (obviously more for a new user to flstudio due to a learning curve)

then opened BIAB new project. went to styles and created the style from the midi file. that process to a whole 3 min...

and it came out killer!!!!

you should try this method as it will open up a huge expansion in the way you can create new unique styles based on exactly what you want.

if you want me to give a detailed list on how to do this let me know and ill post in the tips and tricks.. I may do this anyways.

posting a HOW TO is always a good idea.

I'm figuring that what you did is how I may have to do this project

OK Here goes: I am assuming you know how to work in flstudio... if not there are tutorials to get used to the workflow but in general its pretty easy: Another Note:

you can use another tool and do the same thing be it reason or sonar or any daw that you can export midi and has piano rolls. One more suggestion is do not use ez drummer to do this as it maps midi a little differently you don't want that added hassle...

FLSTUDIO:

Open FL Studio and create a new project

adjust your tempo your tempo to what you want

Drums:

Add a new channel and select FPC (itis the best for this as it shows the different the drum mapping on the piano roll)

now you can either use a pre selected pattern or create one in the piano roll

I suggest making a few variations example: pattern1 base pattern pattern2 double bass variation ect....

quantize

so now you have a few drum patterns

go to playlist and paint each of the patterns in the song where you want them. I suggest doing around 8 or 16 measures

play it as a song to make sure it what you want

Bass:

in a new pattern add new channel and select boo bass

make a 4 bar pattern example: c, (or play around with the groove
You do not need to change root key as your making a style. You just want varied patterns in 1 key.

quantize the bass pattern

same thing applies to the bass pattern make some variations in seperate patterns and quantize

play it as a song to make sure it what you want

you can make other insruments. just repeat above step, however I am unsure of results
as I have done this with bass and drum only

once you have the song the way you want it Save the song.

Got to tools\macros and prepare for midi. Note this step is undoable so save before.

then select file\ export to midi

save the midi file to a directory you want

BIAB:

Opened BIAB new project.

go to Styles \ Style wizard (make style from midi )

then open

select the instruments you want for each track

there are a whole bunch of other options from there but if you just generate the style you'll have your new style.

Note: once I have the new style i disregard the song made and make a new song with the created style.

Have fun... Note: you can edit the new style in the style editor if something doesn't come out quite right but you now have a good base foundation

i did add another instrument with this process and it worked. note: you are limited to the tracks in biab so don't do too many...

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
