Pat, Congratulations on upcoming retirement. Also glad you took the suggestion for YT. One of our forum members mentioned views don't really count, but my channel has had bit over 7000 views. 60%plus is YT internal. I am not in any kind of commercial position, no real sales expected. For your Facebook as mentioned above, I'd certainly setup the introductions and directions you two are going. Hopeful, upbeat. interesting, multi-genre, professional content. On your YT channel do same, with maybe bit of music with it. Also setup the internal TAGS. Within this link, click on Show More, scroll down to the bottom in the and take note of the Related Artist Tagshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gphlfUNRuU4This young man is part of directions want my music to go. Of course is talent is brilliant. Also make sure you tag FB and YT to each other, with corresponding links as things move along. Obviously your son is younger than you, but get opinions from young folks he or you may interact with. The front page is a capture point for interest. Simple, but special. Also no cost at all, but subscribe to other genre similar sites, with links where possible. Usually with get in-kind subscriptions. Within little over 2 hours will be sitting down to a special Valentines day Seafood with steaks and Prime Rib buffet at Feather Falls Casino. So gotta cut this off. Will PM you tonight or in the morning with few Net Techie ideas that my help you. Am excited for you and your son in this endeavor.

Good luck with site Pat.
To be honest I always considered SJ a dead site anyways, most of the times I checked nobody on it broadcasting.
Now if there has been recorded highlights or something would have brightened it up a bit.
I never even signed up to it, though did see you in chat room once.
Sure they can't ban you, big deal...lol....just sign up with a different email and name.

thanks! I'm sure we'll need it... statistically new businesses fail about 100 times more often than they succeed... but overhead is significantly lower for a digital service business than it is for a brick and mortar business with physical inventory, so.... (fingers crossed...) To be honest I always considered SJ a dead site anyways, most of the times I checked nobody on it broadcasting. I understand your thoughts on that... although I see it a bit differently. Starting from scratch, a business like this can't possibly jump from no activity to 24-7 coverage. There are too many obstacles, plus in this age of entertainment overload, there are many many other sites competing for the same customers. With any business that builds momentum, you have to define success differently at the various stages of the project. The first success is when the web site works as advertised. The second success is when you get some customers who like it and make some kind of commitment to it, either as performers or as audience. The third success is in growing the base... and that's where the other site is right now. I consider them to be one of the successful contenders because they are actively working the business, and it *IS* growing. Even on a mature medium like TV, MOST of the day there's nothing on that I want to watch.. maybe an hour a day of interest to me.. usually less. Now if there has been recorded highlights or something would have brightened it up a bit. I agree.... we will be mining that idea for every nugget of usefulness we can find... I never even signed up to it, though did see you in chat room once. Sites like this are a form of social media, and I think it is true of all such sites that you can't fake being social. You have to show up and interact, become part of the scene. That's why you see most of the performers on such sites also showing up in the audience. At first it is the music that interests you... but eventually it is the people... and that's when it becomes most compelling Sure they can't ban you, big deal...lol....just sign up with a different email and name.
Musiclover not entirely true... most people don't just ban a login name... they restrict that IP address from accessing the site. I would need more than a new login.. I'd need to log in from a different ISP account. And even if I did that, there is that small matter of being a live video concept, and they know what I look like. But, no big deal. If getting booted from a web site is the worst thing that happens to me this year, life is good!

"Finally, there needs to be a way for casual audience members to look for unknown performers they may like."
I will add to that. It's got to be easy to find the artists you already know and like aside from just signing up for email notifications. On the other site "search" is hidden under a drop down menu labeled "more". Not exactly user friendly for the fan to have to hunt to find search. JMHO.

If getting booted from a web site is the worst thing that happens to me this year, life is good! Actually, you could get around the IP address problem simply by using a free proxy somewhere... But it kinda sounds like why would you even bother...

just for the record you should be able to participate at all levels on all platforms and devices this is not always the case especially if flash is involved thoughts some sites i've visited have advertisements embedded in the article sp that when you mouse over the ad the video starts playing and if you keep moving the mouse beyond the ad the ad stops this might be cool if on the homepage the current performances could be previewed this way sorta like channel hopping on tv not at launch but ios and android apps may be desirable produce some videos on how to setup your system for the service this free software http://obsproject.com/ may be useful for those that want to record their performance as it happens in addition to live streaming you can record to disk then edit and upload later use of twitter and hashtags an alternative to chat activity would be monitored by the folks who track twitter trends and could provide added publicity

floyd Hey Floyd! Thanks for chiming in! all of the technology is already in place to log in and set up a streaming session, complete with chat... but at the moment its not tied to the domain name, and my son asked me not to make the test environment URL public yet. In brainstorming sessions last night and this morning we finally settled on a logo idea and a CSS template that comes with a lot of built-in functionality that not only looks professional, but which is also scalable for tablets and phones. So, to answer your question directly, we don't have a grand opening date set yet... he still needs to decorate the function with the form.. and then we will begin beta testing. For starters, we want to make it exclusively available to the members of this forum. We think there are enough talented people here to give the site a real workout before we start advertising on a larger scale. Mac once made a very wise observation about posting songs that aren't finished yet... "you only get one shot at a first impression" Same thing goes for web sites. And even though the features available on the first day will be a subset of the site's future functionality, we want those features to be finished and ready for show time. So, can't offer a specific date, but we're very close to having a finished-but-limited-features site ready for testing

regarding the technology: that's one place where a small company with limited resources has to make some practical decisions. It can cost a lot of money to support every platform, even technologies that are on the way out. My son is of the opinion that Flash's shelf life is winding down. Steve Job's adamant decision not to support it in Apple products has led many innovators to steer clear of it for new projects. My son has selected a streaming technology that is quite new, and therefore not fully supported on all browsers yet. His thinking is that... 1) new web standards (keyword being "standard" as opposed to "proprietary"... Flash is proprietary), are eventually supported across the board. His decision was to build the site with technology that uses the latest greatest STANDARDS and will be around for a long time 2) there are already browsers that support the new technology... we're trying to find out a comprehensive list so we can make that info available on the splash page. Its worth mentioning that Google is a web-based company. They live, breathe and feed off the internet, and they make it a point to keep on top of every new protocol. So its safe to say that google's CHROME browser will be the one we recommend. So far we have had nothing but good luck with Chrome.
