I was having RIDICULOUS latency when trying to record audio through my Fasttrack. I was about to shop for a new mixer, but really like the I/O on this box (# of inputs, digital out etc.) Recording was always about half a beat off and I was always "nudging" the audio to fit tracks.
After some reading, I came a cross an article that mentioned buffer sizes. I had stopped using ASIO, as it just plain didn't work, and with a quad-core PC, running on SSD with 16GB of RAM (yeah, I know BIAB is still 32-bit, but I should still get the full benefit of the first 4) I knew it was not a resource issue.
I realized that it was too HIGH a buffer in my control panel.. I went from 4096 in the ASIO/WDM box to down to 128, and PRESTO... I was in-sync. Normally, I have been setting high buffers on everything on my PC assuming caching in RAM was better than reading or writing to disk, so this seemed counter-intuitive.

I've preached over and over and over that the buffer size setting for ASIO can go either direction, depending upon several different issues concerning your machine mobo, chipset, OS, etc. and that one has to experiment with that setting in order to find the "SWEET SPOT" where there are no dropouts while at the same time yielding the lowest possible latency.
In some few cases, setting the ASIO buffer to a HIGHER setting is the cure, but in most cases we want to set that as low as possible without yielding the dreaded audio dropouts. It is a Timing issue.

I have not tried ASIO yet since I changed the driver setting. I had tried every buffer setting with both ASIO4ALL as well as my Mfast settings. I prefer the simplicity of WDM given my drothers.

Actually, I just tried ASIO and it was fine with the drivers set to minimum. I guess now I have a choice, but I have no religion about it. Whatever works...

That's good you have tried the alternatives. You did not say what program you are using to do the recording. If it's BIAB, and WDM works fine, then you may want to use that because you will be able to have another audio program that uses ASIO open concurrently (such as a DAW).

Again, on "keeping it simple" I like BIAB for recording a single line over a rhythm section. If I do something with all four saxes, RealBand works fine. I can always post-process .WAV files with Audacity. I used to use Cakewalk back in the DOS days, and still have an old Windows version.
My big issue was headphone monitors being off from my live playing, and I tend to be a little "behind the beat" naturally, especially on bari sax, so things took a lot of tweaking before. I am a pretty happy camper now..
