Is it possible to change the key of Real Track instruments. For example String quartet plays in C. If I want to use them as background to my songs do I have to record in C. I tried to change the key with the transpose option, and put A in the Key signiture box, but the strings are still playing in C

Hi horahack,
If you are talking about the Realtrack String Quartet, simply change the key, the chord progression will update to the new key and then all you need to do is to regenerate the song.
If, however, you are talking about an audio file string quartet, then it's possible to change the pitch using Pitch Shift but success will vary depending on how much you want to move the pitch. Generally, once pitch shift is set for more than a semitone - tone, the end product doesn't sound so good.
Regards, Noel

The way I work might be the long way around the block. I had a song in a certain key that fit the singer well. I wrote it in BB and use RB to render the tracks.... all was good. For a certain reason, we needed to get another singer to record this song but the key for the first singer wasn't comfortable to the second singer. I went back to the original file in BB, opened it and simply changed the key to the one the new singer was asking for and saved it with a name that reflected the new key. I rendered the tracks in RB from that new key version. There was a unique difference in the way the tracks were rendered that made this second version more interesting, IMHO, than the first version. That may be a longer way to the goal line but it certainly works and the instrument tracks do not sound like they were pitch shifted in a haphazard manner. Just for the sake of curiosity, here are the links to that song and it's 2 versions in different keys: version 1: Helms singer version 2: Rose singer

You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

Thanks, Noel
I think my problem was I was just loading the string quartet alone onto a single track. Probably have to have a wave file on another track for the strings to tune to. Or maybe it was because I didn't refresh, or regenerate. I'm not really sure how to do that. I did it once to fix a drum track problem, but now can't remember what I did. I'll play with it later.
Thanks for the reply

Or maybe it was because I didn't refresh, or regenerate. I'm not really sure how to do that. I did it once to fix a drum track problem, but now can't remember what I did. Highlight the track or tracks you want to generate and click the Generate button, then select what kind of track(s) you want to generate. If you don't like it just undo. Or do it again.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

Thanks for the reply. However, I'm still having issues with this. Can't seem to get the key signature for the Real Strings quartet to match the key of my guitar track
I'm importing the guitar track into Real Band as a wav file from my laptop, and then adding the real strings to another track. I had previously added real drums to the guitar track so the drums are merged into the track and that track is in the key of D. However the strings I want in the background are still in C.
I highlighted the strings track and transposed to the key of D, then regenerated the track by highlighting it and hitting the Generate button. The string track is in red, and the guitar track is in red as well, even though I recorded the guitar track myself using an external track recorder but the drum track merged or rendered with it was a Real Drum track that did not reach the last bar, a regeneration issue, which I think I understand now.
However, now when I regenerate, for the key signature problem, I get some sort of error box pop up in the right top corner in yellow, but it does not stay on long enough to read. Something about no tracks were generated because you have a From/Thru highlighted but no BB MIDI or BB real tracks with active soloist with style or override selected.
As far as I know I'm not using any MIDI only my actual guitar and vocals with the Real Drums embedded into the prerecorded track. Why do I get this message and how can I fix the problem. For now I have to prerecord my actual guitars and vocals externally then import into Real Band.
I need to be able to change the key of real Tracks, not only on this project, for many others to come.
Thanks in advance for a solution

An Audio file should end up on the Audio track, not the Guitar track, regardless of what instrument is on that file.
**Have you entered the chords for this song onto the Chord Sheet?**

Thanks, mac:
Think I figured it out. I was selecting all tracks in the generate menu instead of the string quartet real track. Got the strings in the key of D now.
However, the string arpeggio does not fit what my self-recorded guitars and vocals are doing. Is there any way to control what the strings are playing? Probably not since it is a preset. No way the quartet could know what we want them to play. I guess this more of a Wish List question or suggestion. I will post it there.
Thanks everyone.

We aren't limitied to just the String Quartet.
In BB2014, we can now easily add Strings from ANY other style, just the Strings part, with one button push.
Don't ignore the MIDI strings styles for this, either. With string pads, the MIDI cheese is pretty much going to be nonexistent, especially if you use a good sounding MIDI synth solution. And, when added to RealTracks, sounds even more convincing when mixed well.
Use of the Strings like that can yield quite a few arrangement options.
A String Quartet is NOT a String Section and the two bring entirely different aspects to the thing.
