Hi,

I am entering lyrics in the note based mode. This is my process: I enter lyrics throughout the entire song, I "save" my work. My next step is to go to the top of the song and listen back for lyrics corrections. Once at the top, I glance at my first few words of the song, and what WAS there before, is now replaced with some other lyric portion of the song. So I go to lyrics event list and change them back to the initial lyrics. I go to the top of the song again and it is the other lyrics portion again. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

I have done about 4 songs (Im new at biab) now and not every song has this problem. Do you have any suggestions on rectifying this and preventing this from happening again? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Did you first place notes corresponding to the Melody on the Melody Track?

I have had the same issue in the past. As an example, let's say I was making an arrangement of "Over the Rainbow".

I would first enter the melody notes of the 1st verse. Then copy those same notes for the 2nd verse.

Then I would start entering the lyrics "Some-where o-ver the rain-bow way up high..........

Next I would enter the 2nd verse "Some-where o-ver the rain-bow skies are blue.........

When I did a print preview, I would see that the first verse had "skies are blue" instead of "way up high. I would wonder "How did that happen?".

My work around has been to "erase all lyrics" and start over. Sometimes I would try to fix the lyrics using the edit events window.

It's a bit frustrating when you've spent a lot of time on a song, and you think you're all done and ready to have a nice print out of the song. And then you find the correct lyrics have been replaced by those from a later verse.

If someone has a solution, I would appreciate it too.

I'm currently using BIAB 2013 (365). Even with this issue, BIAB is a fantastic program.

Thanks.
Ray

Sounds like you aren't making sure that the file is on the Second Chorus when attempting to enter the Second Verse Lyrics and are thus only overwriting the First Verse again.

Or try the Unfold to One Long Song command to make things simpler.

In my example, the song was unfolded into just one chorus. That's why the "replacing" of lyrics is so puzzling.

I think it has been a problem for many versions. For me, it seems to do with copying (lyrics or melody) and then possibly removing them. This can happen if you copy (alt-c) either from the wrong bar or to the wrong bar, then use undo or cntl-z to clean up the error.
Lyrics and or melody from another part of the song will often show up in the first bars of the song.

I only use unfolded format, so it probably isn't that. My guess is UNDO is the culprit. It's very frustrating and can be a nightmare to clean up.

Hi Mac,

1) Entering all the chords is first.
2) Then enter all the melody line.
3) Then I enter in the lyrics.

rmp and I have the exact same prob.

Hi everyone,

Thanks RMP for posting and yes, thats exactly what I'm experiencing and I feel the frustration as you do!

@Dave-As I read your post, it dawned on me that I think I know what it goes on.

Ex: the lyrics are "over the rainbow". I enter "ov-er the rain-bot" but as I see, there is a correction I have to make with "rain-bot". I will attempt to replace it with the lyrics edit box. Then, I go back to the notation window and instead of entering the next word "way" in way up high, it will put me back at "ov-er" as in over the rainbow. I discovered this late last night, in that, I need to keep clicking "enter", next to the entering lyric window until the mouse/cursor moves to the newest lyric placement.

I have to make alot of corrections when Im entering lyrics and I have to go back into the edit box to replace lyrics. I think all of this replacing, gets biab confused. By doing t his, biab grabs a part a song and puts them elsewhere in the song.

I will experiment with this more tonight and let you know sometime tomorrow with my finding.

Hope all that I wrote makes sense.

Okay, great.

I'm going to start out fresh with a new song, repeated choruses, add a Melody line and then Note Based Lyrics using BB2014 here, and will report back my findings.

It worked fine back during the beta for me, but there's been the Updates issued, let me check this out and get back.

Maybe this might be easier and quicker if you already have the notes in https://sites.google.com/site/karakankaraoke/

Dave, as I read your post, I think you might be on to something.

I think that the combination of "copy from....to....." and then "undo" might be confusing BIAB somehow.

When I think back of songs I've arranged, the simple ones where I enter melody notes, then lyrics without using "undo", those seemed to come out fine.

But when I recently put together the song "Dream On", I had 1 chorus and 93 bars. I was building it maybe 8 bars at a time using "copy from.... to....", then I would sometimes change my mind and use "undo" because I copied it to the wrong bar and start over again. Maybe it's those situations that causes the problem with the lyrics.

I haven't been able specifically identify the problem, but it seems to happen with copying both notes and lyrics. I can't say it has never happened with a song with just a melody, but I really don't remember it occuring.

It's very frustrating and all you can really do is fix it, or if you are lucky,go back to a previously saved copy. In these situations, I also find it safer to restart BIAB simply to ensure that any residual copied data is cleared.

Hi

I had no problems with the new songs I entered today. Go figure. But then again, I went straight to edit lyrics box if I had to make corrections. I think by dong this method, it didn't take later portions of a song and switch them, to put them in front of the song.

Hope this helps!

Also I will take note of Dave's latest post regarding the copy/to/from feature and the "undo" feature would make sense.

Thank!
Shannon

I was just about to post my results in testing with a "could not duplicate" -- I think you've found what your problem really was all about there.

Have Fun,

Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
