I loaded my 2004 BIAB (windows 95 and higher).
It installs, but nothing works, I get messages saying that 'whatever' is not installed. I would like to get this working before I invest $500 in a program that I am not capable of using.

Anyone has a fix for 2004 and windows 7?

Roy

Roy, just checking, but you did mean 2004 not 2014, correct? Do we know if a program 11 years old even runs under Windows 7? Assuming it does, this is just a guess, but did you have a virus checker active while installing? Turn that off and install again.

Another quick test would be to right click on BBW.EXE and Run as Administrator. Also, if you have Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate (not Home), you have an XP Emulation Mode you can try.

Otherwise, I recommend you call PG Music Support. They can tell you if 2004 will run under Windows 7, and assuming it does, even take control of your PC remotely if need be, to diagnose the problem.

Finally, you need not worry if version 2014 will work on Windows 7 (or 8 and 8.1). It works fine.

Hi Roy

I had the impression from earlier posts that Band In A Box was working for you.

Is this an install on a new computer? And if so, is that when your problems started?

Consider turning UAC off before installing (remember you need to reboot after disabling UAC).

Matt's idea (above) of running directly from the disk is an excellent starting point to determine what might contribute to your problem

Trevor, after writing that, I realized that version 2004 might not have come on a hard disk but instead DVDs, and I don't think you can run directly from a DVD so I edited my post quickly. I just don't remember that far back when the switch to external USB hard drives was made. Please re-read the second paragraph. Thanks.

Hi Matt, sorry, I didn't correctly pick up on the 2004.

Roy wrote about investing money in a program he might not be able to use, so I presumed he had just purchased an upgrade. My Bad. At any rate, it's hard for any software company to predict future compatibility with operating systems so many years further down the track.

However, I think it's a safe bet to advise Roy that Band in a Box 2014 is compatible with his Windows 7

I didn't either at first. Sometimes we see what we expect to see. I did not expect 2004.

It would help you to solve this problem much better if you could be more specific as to what at least one or two of those messages are, and what they tell you at what time.

At help>tutorials>rests> Pop=up says there was a problem running Macro (1037)
If I hit the quarter note I get a pop-up saying the fonts aren't loaded.

I have 2004 loaded on my desktop, (XP)..I cannot access email on the desktop so I loaded the program on my laptop (laptop is about 4 years old (Acer Aspire 7740)

BIAB 2004 loaded okay, and it will run the installed files. I can start a new file, but that's it, as stated above when I hit the 1/4 note button a pop-up says the thing about the fonts.

You original post said "It installs but nothing works". Now you say you have it working, but with specific error messages. OK, different problem entirely.

When you installed, did you use the Setup.exe program? This will install needed fonts onto your boot drive. It sounds like you may have just copied the contents of another drive? And, did you turn off the virus checker before installation?

"Nothing works" Implying the things that I need to program biab to be be able to input my music.

I'll delete the program, turn off the virus programs and re-install.

Seems to me there was a download available from PGM back then that addressed the missing fonts - might find it in support.

BarryKJ has a good point - there is a 2004C update here: http://www.pgmusic.com/support_windowsupdates.htm

which you should download and install after your initial install.

Thanks for the tip Barry..I called BiaB, there is a compatibility issue with windows 7 and the 2004 version. They worked with me and gave me the tools I needed to get it working.

I had to hand install the fonts..Notation works now! I can solve out each issue now.

In a conversation with the agent, the program I am after is RealBand. So I'll research their files and see what I need to buy

Thanks for all your support and help!
