Can you give us a bit more? There are a lot of directions in which this answer could go.
RealTracks cannot play the melody, if that's what you are asking. A MIDI synth can, and you have choices depending on what you use to play back your MIDI (hardware or software). There is also the provided SampleTank, which has a limited supply of instruments.
Or do you mean, what are the mouse/keystrokes to use to select an instrument?

Have you used Powertracks yet?? I bought it a week ago, but haven't really gotten into it yet. I suppose one could "fill out" a DR Big Band Section approach with its midi track construction (22 instrument tracks?).
Too early for me to communicate...been up since 2:39 AM, streaming some Randy Brecker from X-Box Music...reminds me of your substantial chops!!

GDaddy, don't you already have Band in a Box and Realband?
Realband has everything that Powertracks can do in it...
Matter of fact, if you ignore any of the BB generator inside Realband, it IS Powertracks.

Learn something from you every day...
I was in the process of trying both PTP and something like "n-Tracks", in combination to develop a "nifty" way for coming up with more correct chord changes from audio to midi conversion programs.
But alas, with pianists like Shirley Horn, whose accompaniment on keyboard is loaded with partials and fragmented chord structure....well, lots of luck G-Daddy!!??
Go back to school and take a few more jazz harmony classes (and you probably will still miss the multitude of the add-ons, extended, or flat-out substitute chords "they come up with") to enhance... or keep out of the way...of the important things, like communicating the real feel of the song's lyrics or progressions.
