I have windows 7, windows 8 and windows xp all on same machine and have to activate on both windows 7 and windows 8, just use the one copy of biab and shortcut it to each OS.

Just logged into windows xp yesterday and on clicking the shortcut it wanted activation as well. I didn't activate because I want to keep at least one of my activations free. But then I am never really in windows xp anyways.

Its no big deal for me at the moment as I only have biab on one desktop computer and still have one free activation and when using this activation thing other software programs would do the same thing, so its not unusual.

But I can see the point of people who use biab on more than one computer and maybe have a dual boot on one of them.

Its not important enough for me to contact pg music at the moment, but I must admit I would start to get really annoyed if I had activated and then it started messing around and saying your software is not activated, which I don't think has happened to many.

Folks are just curious how it got handled is all.

I hope you don't "let it slide", because this is important to folks, especially ones that have been shut out of software they legally bought!

And no, this has NOT HAPPENED to myself, as I did not upgrade the program this year...

It wasn't about Kevin.

It was all about how some others might use it or choose to view things.

There have been a few other threads in which the new Authorization thing has been under attack by a few, I didn't want that to start up again, or get out of hand.

Likely won't stop those with an agenda anyway...

Mac, welcome to the internet where folks have opinions and express them. PG seems wise enough not to try and shut down the conversation so why should you? Fact is copy protection always inconveniences legit, paying customers. It always has and likely always will. You can go on and on about how necessary it is and perhaps that is true (although there are plenty of examples where companies thrive without it!) And you can point out how reasonable PG is in your experience. That is all good and useful. But it does not change the fundamental fact that all such schemes inconvenience legit customers. And it is probably good feedback for PG to hear whether some of their customers do not like the new copy protection or conversely if most of them think it is just fine.

Someone far smarter than me once said, "You can put lipstick on Sarah Palin...but she's still Sarah Palin!"

So adding my viewpoint to the conversation is "shutting it down"?

Right.

No, but comments like "I didn't want that to start up again" sound a little like trying to shut it down! smile

Hello Kevin,

The license file is stored in a location that is accessible to all users on the computer. It may be that the activated file got deleted for some reason. In that case you would have had to activate the program again - this wouldn't have "used up" an activation, because it is the same computer. FWIW that is also the case with IK products as far as I know (you can activate on the same computer multiple times).

If it happens again, we would appreciate if you could write down the exact message and contact us, so we can figure out if there is a bug that needs fixing.

Thanks Andrew for the clarification. I think that should put a lot of folks minds to rest.
Cheers

OP - Kemmrich - How many activations do I get?

Mac - And pg is not the kind of folks who would do something like you insinuate to any of their valued customers.

Gee, my insinuation is just as unappreciated as your original insinuation was to me. Although I did not insinuate anything, I prefer things to be a bit more point blank than that.

I didn't want that to start up again, or get out of hand. Likely won't stop those with an agenda anyway...

Thank You Andrew for giving us a straight answer without any type of attitude, it IS appreciated!

IK gives you 5 activations, and as long as you are not requesting 2 or 3 a month they will "re-set" your activations back to 5 when you run out.

Is there a way to "back up" an activation token? I frequently (at least twice a year) restore my Windows 7 to a pristine state, re-install new drivers and re-install my apps. I realize this is a pain, but I have done this since Windows 3.1 and it works for me.

I suspect I have used up a few tokens, as sometimes, I have had to re-install more than once. I understand that PG's excellent support would never leave a customer hanging, but I hate to inconvenience them with unnecessary support requests if I have a work-around...

If the machine is hooked up to the Internet, the entire system is automatic to you.

Since the Authorization Code is also linked to the PC's internal CPU serial number, the system cannot recognize two Authorizations for one machine anyway.

But it would be a very good idea to copy and paste that Authorization number into a separate notepad or wordpad file, then store that file elsewhere and also Print a hard paper copy of it just in case you do ever reinstall the entire Operating System.

If the auth is machine specific, it shouldn't matter if you restore, re-install windows, update, etc. .. the machine should use only one authorization.
It should keep track of this type of adjustment to the system.
That said, I do admit to keeping a notepad file of critical keys and also saving a backup of that file to an external storage .. be it thumb drive or 'cloud' storage (or both).

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

I had BIAB ask for a new Authorization when I re-installed Windows. Hopefully, there is intelligence on the back-end that didn't decrement my license usage.

Not to worry, the Autorization process is also tied to the internal CPU serial number, so you can't have two Authorizations for one machine at the same time. Reinstalling Windows and then redoing the Authorization code on the recently installed BB/RB with a machine that is connected to he Internet should automatically know and understand that the serial number for CPU is the same as the previous authorization.
