Hi,
I have a problem with Power Tracks 2014 running in XP in that when I render down, the pan settings are ignored. Has anyone noticed this? I went to support but they have no XP machines to test this on.
Further when I deleted 2014 and reinstalled 2013 the same problem now shows up on 2013, no panning recognized in mix down.
Even using windows 'restore to previous state' the hook remains.
Thanks for any help
Ron

Hi Ron,
It would help greatly if you were to post exactly what you do as a step-by-step, each command as you have done it, using whatever terms PT uses in its menus and commands.
** This "rendered" file might be being converted to Mono and not Stereo, which would eliminate any Panning you've done.**

What command are you using to "render down" ? You should use one of the "Merge Audio" commands in the Audio menu. If you're just dragging an individual track to the desktop or something, then you will likely just get a copy of the raw audio track itself.

--Mac ------------------------ Hi Jeff, Mac OK, in Power Tracks 2014 (1) I used this demo: From a USB stick with a few bars of piano on it,,, Drop down 'Audio" Import wave file to track 1, 1-0-0 Import wave file to track 2, 6-3-10 Change to 'Mixer' Pan track 1 hard left Pan track 2 hard right "save as" button, "test1" Go back to 'track' and play...plays from left and right speakers as it should --------------------------------- Use the "Render Audio DXi" button Click, "Merge to audio and DXi tracks to Stereo wave file" Save to desk top as "test2" Test2 has been created successfully, click "yes" to hear File plays back as mono, no panning 'Mono' is the word I was look for thanks. So I now have two computers that only mix down to mono, no matter what version of Power Tracks I have installed. Ron

Thanks for the reply Jeff, Just a little background I have been a Power Tracks 'fan' since the first versions on floppies! So it was a bit disconcerting to have this problem with 2014. Then to not be able to undo what 2014 did was distressing. As a workaround I dug out an old XP tower and installed M-Audio pro tracks and Power Tracks 2013 on it to get me through the current project. Everything else in 2014 works great, the new desk top is perfect, had it mastered in a couple of days. I am recording a Quartet on a Yamaha AW1600 using all 8 tracks then into 2013/2014 to edit. All functions save properly to seq so onto a USB stick and into the "new" 2013 machine to mix down to stereo. Thanks for your interest Ron

I tried to duplicate the problem, both with 2 stereo tracks, and 2 mono tracks, and I can't duplicate it. If I use Audio - Merge Audio and Dxi/VSTi tracks to stereo wave file I always get a stereo wav that has the panning working.
If the song plays in stereo it always merges to stereo. Not sure what to suggest, as it works fine for me.

Hi Jeff, Mac,
If its any help... I now have one machine back up and running.
As mentioned after an install of 2014 in XP there is a problem in that will only mix down to mono. This stays with the machine if one tries to return to 2013.
I tried registry cleaners not knowing where the 'hook' was, but nothing positive. So I deleted Power Tracks, Band in a Box, Real Tracks and everything that looked like a remnant, even going into windows system and deleting anything that looked suspicious.
Gross I know but now I have Power Tracks 2013 up and running and rendering down to stereo on one machine. Probably a file in win sys that was doing the dirty work???
I will leave the studio machine as is 'cause a "lead technician" will be in Tuesday noon and "may" get to my case within 72 hours with a remote scan, (support, ha)
Ron

Make sure the "Mono" checkbox in the mixer is unchecked.

I tested it on Windows 7, but not expecting that the operating system would make a difference, since it's the same code that merges to a .WAV

Hi Jeff,
Yes, well I first approached Support and they assured me that it worked fine... but they were on win 7 also. What they didn't consider was that this was a working system that was running for many years and always accepted previous upgrades without a hitch.
Also the fact that it shows the same behaviour on two different XP machines leads me to suspect an XP problem. Further, when 2014 is deleted the problem stays for a re-install of 2013, so the problem lies in the file that doesn't get deleted.
I am in Fairfield, Victoria, are you or mac close?
Ron

I'm not close to where you are, but I could likely try it on an old XP machine that I still have. Have you tried deleting your PTPA.CFG and PTW.INI (in the PT folder) and then rebooting PT 2014 ?

OK, deleted PTPA.CFG but didn't see a PTW.INI??? did a merge audio and DXi to test6 No sound now in VLC or Audacity but Audacity shows a stereo wave all same as in PT... on the road to recovery!!! Thanks Ron PS: (I have sound in Power Tracks) PPS: put test6 on a USB stick and it plays up here on the Linux machine ... IN STEREO!!!! Thanks ever so much... now to find out why it killed VLC and Audacity???? I will report to Pauline @ support that the problem is solved Love the new interface... its a winner Thanks to you and Mac for your support, appreciated. Final: Vlc and Audacity back on line, just a matter of a re-boot R
