Hi...
I have been attempting to record my voice into a song I'm working on. I make an audio track. I've got my mic coming out of my mixer into the designated Audigy 2 input. I have also checked the Windows input... it's the same as the Audigy's. I press "record audio". I get my count in, start singing. When I'm finished it asks me if I want to keep the take. I say yes. The track shows up with no data. I've tried different inputs and settings... still nothing.
The funny part is that I tried recording in Cakewalk HS with the same input setup as I had in RB... and it works. Am I missing a setting somewhere in RB?
Any and all help would be appreciated (as usual)

Test using vu meters.
watch the input one, it should only move to your voice.
I use good headphones for recording, otherwise you end up with the drums etc. in the wave file.

I should have mentioned the vu meters in my post, John... sorry. The vu meter input doesn't move... just the output side. I'm using good headphones. I used to record a bit a few years ago with Cakewalk but haven't touched any music until I got BIAB and RB. I just find it strange that it would work in Cakewalk - really good, I might add - and not in RB - with the exact same setup. I know that the sound is getting into the Audigy - I used my headphones to check that out. It just isn't coming out - in RB.

If i remember right, i had to have the track highlighted and then press the red button. Try that and if noone comes along i will setup and record a track this evening and report back

Points up some advice I've heard--make a manual for what you do. This will go beyond the manual for whatever software you are using as it will incorporate settings for your hardware as well.
I learned this the hard way back when I was first learning to record to disk using a demo version of Cubase. NOTHING seemed to work the same way twice. I was usually doing the right stuff, but not always in the right order, which was crucial. Only recording (in writing) the successful steps made this clear to me and, more importantly, guaranteed repeatable results.
Write down what you do as you go. Later, delete what didn't work. The result will be a recipe for success.
This is especially important when you are using more than one bit of software to do the same thing. None of them do the same thing in quite the same way. I use several different sequencers for compatibility with different collaborators, so I am very mindful of this right now.

its posible that rb is not recognizing your audigy for some reason. try opening your sound card's mixer and see if the mic input may be muted. other than that, make sure you have configured your s/c correctly in rb then reboot.

Two things.
First, of course, you need to have the Audigy selected in the Audio Setup dialog for RB. Make sure the input you have selected is selected and highlighted on the list.
SOMETIMES, RB and PTW will not put the input you are using at the TOP of the list. RB and PowerTracks ALWAYS use the input at the top of the list. So, when you click to make the track and AUDIO track, make sure that it is using the correct input.
For instance, if the Wave is listed as the top Input in the Audio Setup, then every time you create an Audio Track to record, it's going to record from the Wave input, which means the Wave output. So, if you have your mixer plugged into the Line In 2 input on the Audigy, you MUST select Line In 2 as the Audio Input device. This is on the Track, not the audio config dialog. With the Audigy you have, you have several different inputs, make sure you're using the one selected.
If you do, make sure the outputs of the mixer are going to the right place, if you're using a condensor mic, make sure the Phantom power is turned on, and read the manual for the mixer to make sure that you've set up the input gain for the mic correctly. You want to see movement on the mixer VU meter for when you sing, even before you get to the sound card or Real Band.

Forgive me, Gary, If I'm not seeing something that I should be seeing. But when I go into the Audio Settings I don't see anything anywhere where I can configure my Audigy in RB. There is no place in the pop-up box that even mentions the Audigy. I don't THINK I'm looking in the wrong place, but I could be wrong. (it wouldn't be the first time) I'm sure that what you're telling me is the problem... I just can't find the place to make the change.
I'm looking in "Audio Settings" which I pick from the tool bar... the button that says "Audio Set".

I'm not in front of my computer right now, when I get home in a couple of hours, I'll go over it.
What you are going to be looking for will be anything in the Audio Set under Drivers that says Creative such and such. You may see Creative Line 1, Creative Line 2, Creative S/PDIF, or something like that. I don't have a Creative card in my computer any more, so I can't tell you exactly.

Hi Gary...
Just wanted to tell you that I found where I can choose my input on the Audigy. And it works. However... I now hav latency when recording my voice or guitar... hmm... any suggestions?

Uhh... yes??? I cannot tell a lie... I now know how to set up the audio inputs. One question, however. Both Gary and the help in RB tell me that I should move the selected to the top... but I don't see anything to let me do that. One thing I didn't write down is how I got rid of the latency. I guess this is going to take a while...

There should be a button that says 'Move Selected to Top' right below the list of audio inputs. Or, is that MIDI inputs? Maybe both?
Latency, there should be settings for latency, not only in RB, but on your ASIO control panel, if you're using ASIO. Honestly, with your set up, I do NOT recommend using ASIO, use the WDM or MME drivers instead, it's less of a headache.

I finally got things going the way I want them to go... much thanks to you. At least I have a good understanding about how to set RB up for recording.
No ASIO you say? I'm not doubting you because I know absolutely nothing about ASIO or MME. The only thing I've been hearing is that ASIO is better to use? I don't know why... it's just what I've been reading. Perhaps, when you get time, you could explain to me exactly what they are, what they do and the difference between them? It sure would be appreciated.
I've been fooling around with the recording stuff all afternoon - I guess that's the only way I'm going to learn. But I'm tired now and think I'm going to pack it in for the night. The weather is supposed to be nice tomorrow and so it will be back to reality. Blah..

ASIO works relatively well when you're using software synths. For instance, DXis and VSTis you would want to use ASIO with, so that you can play them in real time. Otherwise, you're going to have horrible lag, half a second or more from the time you press the key until you hear the first note.
Now, with WDM or MME drivers, you're not using a software synthesizer. So, you play Real Band tracks back, and you play you Ketron or Guitar into RB to record alongside of those tracks. That's all real time. You don't have to worry about computer processor slowing stuff down.
Mac can give you a better insight into it. I use ASIO when I have to, WDM when I don't.
