I set my Proteus VX v2.0 to Dynamic Grand (or nearly any other) preset. I play a MIDI track from within PTP12 (*.seq file). The Proteus VX changes to "Dance" (always) preset!

For the record, this seems to only occur if I play the PTP12 track from the track beginning. If I reset the Proteus, & start PTP playing from another position, the Presets stay as I set them. Also, my Key Board MIDI Controller plays w/o problems. This occurs only on the recorded tracks (I have tried several.).

I checked the PTP Event List & Notation Window & found NO noticeable anomalies.

FYI: (1) I am using the Config of PTP->MIDI Yoke->Proteus suggested in several other Posts about 'Using Proteus with ...' PG products; (2) PTP has ASIO set, & uses MIDI YOKE1 Out; Ea. PTP track uses a different MIDI YOKE1 (16 MIDI YOKE 1's); (3) Proteus' "Preference->Options->Audio" is "Direct Sounds"; and MIDI is "MIDI YOKE:1" in.

Any and all ideas are greatly appreciated. Tnx

Is this something you downloaded from the internet? There's so many ways a downloaded midi file could not be compatible with your setup you don't even want to go there until you have a good understanding of how midi works. You could download 10 files that play fine then suddenly you go to another site and none of those files play properly. Without going into details, those tend to be created on somebody's specific setup and they have a bunch of non standard commands hidden in them that only work on a Korg keyboard or something. This is guaranteed to drive you crazy until you realize that not all midi files are created equal. I've downloaded hundreds of files and I still have a few that I have no clue why they don't work. Usually, there's program change or other commands in the event list. The big clue from you is you say the problem happens when you start the file from the beginning. That certainly sounds like a program change or a sysex string in the beginning of the file. If you don't see it in the instrument track itself, it may be in a separate track that is just used for data. At first glance all the other tracks look empty but when you open the event list for each "empty" track, there's all this stuff in one of them. It can get very tricky. With a file like that, I find it easier to just search the internet for another version of the song.

That would indicate that there is a MIDI Patch Change command at the beginning of the file that is part of the particular MIDI file you've loaded.

You can use the MIDI Event List inside PT to find the Patch Change event and change it to the MIDI Patch Number for the desired patch, or just delete that event and PT will add yours from selecting the one you want in Tracks View.

Thanks for posting Bob, No, this is 1-of-5 Tracks created within PTP12. The file is in the native *.seq format of PTP12.

I agree w/U on the "big clue". I am a newbie at this Home DAW stuff. I've been reading about & testing a bunch of new hardware & software. I must confess I don't understand much of the Home VST DAW so far but, I'm learning. I have managed to do basic MIDI editing (Copy/smooth-paste, Velocity, Duration, limited Mixer customizing.) When I peek into PTP's EVENT WINDOW, I am not sure of what should or should not be there. I understand how to edit it. I don't know what to put in it!

I don't know the 1st thing about coding SysEx. There R very few, brief code snippets in PTP's Help file for specific purposes- just references on accessing the feature. I've found more 'code snippets' in PTP's FAQs but, no tutorial on customizing the SysEx in general. Thus, unlike taking an ASP/Java Script snippet & plugging into a Web Page code, I can't use them.

I am sure given time, I will web-search & read more on the SysEx part of MIDI Technology. It WOULD shorten my learning curve, if anyone can help in this SysEx idea. I've looked everywhere, that I am confident to edit in PTP for a cause and found none. I must agree w/U, it probably is caused by that which I am NOT competent to edit. I will try to go that route. Thanks again for bringing the idea (that a SysEx issue is a valid suspect).

Hi Mac,
We keep meeting like this, people will talk!

Seriously, thanks very much for posting and teaching. By "Patch Change", I assume the MSB & LSB #'s. If so, I CAN, edit those! (If not, I will find out what that is.) The Event List has no column labels. I knew of the Velocity & Measure columns but did not know the Patch Change #s were also there in other columns.

I'll let U know how I made out.

Mac,

I am sooOOOOooo humbled by your experiences and Audio Knowledge.

I went into the EVENT WINDOW of PTP12. There are 3-unlabeled columns to the right of the labeled columns. From left to right of the unlabeled Cols: 1) Is the music Note & Octave; 2) Is the Note's Velocity; 3) I don't know the purpose. Every row has either a 3-digit or 2-digit number.

So, I scanned the Help files for Patch Changes & began examining each entry. I found your solution in the PTP's CLASSIC TRACK WINDOW. I matched the Patch # from Proteus VX of the Preset/Voice that I wished & manually entered it into the PTP's CLASSIC TRACK WINDOW. IT WORKED!

Until now, I have never had a use for the CLASSIC Track Window of PTP12, I just used the new TRACK, Mixer, Notation & Events Windows.

What have I learned today from the Master? 1) When using 2 or more software involving MIDI Patches, make certain I sync Patches in ALL other software to the same MSB/LSB of the Preset/Voice/Patch that I am actually using! (If this is wrong, by all means correct me!) 2) Read more of PTP's manual and keep testing what I read!

Thank You for shortening my learning curve- again, Great Mac-Yoda,

-Mo

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
