Greetings, fellow BIB lovers,

I've been a little busy and only today finally got around to installing the 2009 version of the program for Windows, and I also installed the latest update (282). I have discovered that something has changed that I don't like, and I hope someone knows how to put this one feature back like it was.

I like to use the "Pause Play Until MIDI or Key Received" option. (Actually I don't like to, but I have to in order to reduce the loudness of the loud clunk on beat one with some styles and using Nashville even 8; seems related to RealDrums; it's softer if I use a lead-in bar. Why can't this be fixed? I've been asking about it for over a year!)

Anyway, before I updated (from build 257 - like I said, I've been busy), starting playback while using this feature resulted in a yellow box popping up in the upper right corner of the screen that said, "Playback paused till MIDI note or QWERTY key pressed. (This is set in OPT-Preference.)" I liked the way this message would continue to appear, changing colors back and forth, until I pressed a key to actually begin the song. It was handy because I could glance at the screen and tell just by looking at it that it was ready to go.

But now that yellow box only displays for one second and goes away, leaving me unable to tell by looking at the screen whether the song is ready to begin (waiting for my second key press) or if it's waiting my first key press to begin playback.

Is there any way to make this yellow box stay "on" (displayed" until I press another key? It was very handy to me...

Thanks in advance,
JK

It looks like the delay time was changed in the later builds. You would have to revert back to an older build to increase the time again.

Thanks for spotting that. It is fixed for the next (free) patch build. That'll be due in 1-3 weeks.

Have Fun!

Peter provides a fix and the wait won't be that long.

Meanwhile, a possible workaround would be to hit the Prefs button and check, "Pause Play until MIDI or Key received..."

Thank you, Peter! I'll look forward to the fix. (Mac, I did have that selected; I wouldn't know any other way to make the program automatically pause when I hit "Play." Very handy feature.)

While I have Pete's attention (I hope I still do), can we PLEASE get a fix for the crash cymbal and louder-than-usual bass drum sounds on beat 1 of measure 1 of some songs? It only happens with certain styles, it seems, and only when using RealDrums (does not happen with MIDI drums). It happens even though the "First Bar of first chorus of song gets a drum cymbal crash" on Arrangement Options is NOT selected. This initial crash and bass drum are pretty loud and disruptive in my praise and worship setting; it is quite noticeable and just shouldn't be there. I discovered that this "clunk" as others have called it is not as loud if I use a lead-in bar, so I do (but I'd rather not). It's as if the beginng volume levels don't get turned down until playback actually begins.

Styles I hear it with include SARAH1, C_SWEET, and the worst one is JOHNBAL. I use this style a lot (along with hybrid modifications of it, and they do it, too). Also happens on FOREVER, SUMRMOOD, WORSHIP, -PBAL_60, PW_AVA PW_AVA, and probably others.

I thought it might be related to the RealDrum set that I use with these styles (NashvilleEven8^1), but I tested one of my songs by changing the style to Country Even 8 and it still did it. I experienced this problem with all builds of 2008 and now with 2009 (277 and 282). Others have reported and experienced this problem, too, and I have had a couple of dialogs with PG staff who have not been able to get this resolved, it seems.

When you test for this, if your sound system isn't cranked up loud, it won't seem that noticeable. My computer is hooked up to a Bose PAS System and cranked up pretty loud, and it is VERY noticeable. Most of my slow, ballad-style worship songs begin with levels set low and I boost them up at various points throughout the song (thanks for adding that capability, by the way). I've been asking for this problem to be fixed ever since I installed the 2008 version, that's when I started noticing it (maybe that's when I started using RealDrums) . PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE fix this. I love this program and use it in our church every week, playing guitar and singing along with my BIAB. But this bug is so aggravating.
