The audiophile external drive is not an SSD; it uses normal hard drive technology. Hard drives are mechanical devices and thus generate some heat, but the case is sealed and I don't think covering it would hurt. Of course, what hurts a hard drive in a fall is not cracking the case - it's scoring the platters with the head.

The audiophile drive's capacity is about 1.5 TB.
