Yes, a USB 3.0 drive is far faster than the more common USB 2 standard that we've had for ten years or so. USB 3.0 is backwards compatible so you can still use the drive on older equipment. I bought a PCI add-on card to give me USB 3.0 on my older PC and it really helps when copying many files for backups.
