I recently got Sample Tank. I was told that I would have to use Cubase to take advantage of the VSTi's because PT just couldn't cut it.

Sample Tank runs smooth in Cubase. Not even a hiccup. Everything functions quickly & easily. But I hate Cubase. PT just seems more intuitive for me. (maybe it's simpler or has a more understandable layout?) I tried Sample Tank in PT & it moans & groans to work. It works... but takes forever to load something or even open up "edit dxi". The cpu use is very high in PT. (not so in Cubase)

Can anyone tell me why?
Is there a workaround?

I've seen talk on this forum about how PT sucks with VST's. I'm sure PG is aware that it's lacking.
Is there any work being done to correct this? If it was my computer, I would think it wouldn't function well in Cubase, so I have a feeling it's PT.

Thoughts...ideas....opinions...feedback....???

TIA,
Mick

Peter has said they are trying to improve the VST/VSTi handling.

Many of us thought it was using a wrapper to convert the VST to DXi, thus the extra overhead, but he said that is not the case. Just something in the coding makes it take a little more resources than some software. However, I have tried other software and found other things they couldn't do or were a pain in the butt to figure out HOW to do something. The interface keeps me here, it's intuitive to me. BiaB is not, but PT and RB is.

I do think there is a slight improvement in the RB VST handling over the older PT. Have you tried it? Remember, PT has been a couple years with no updates of any significance.

ST works well in my PT version 11 and even better in RB. I have used it in BiaB as well.

I use Sample Tank and Sonic Synth a lot in Real Band with no problems, maybe try it with RB. The VST problems you hear about concern tempo matching such as not being able to use Jamstix to create it's own drum parts. There's no problem with using VST's as sound modules to play different instruments. All of my VST's work fine with that one exception. Also Mick, I did reply to your email on July 6th but didn't hear back, did you not get it?

No I didn't. I also sent rharv & Frank one and didn't get a reply. I thought you guys were upset with me.

I have been able to get Sample Tank to work in RB, but it takes quite a while to load. ie. when I click on "edit dxi" to load an instrument, RB almost freezes. I've only used 2 instruments from it in RB. I have to see if it will use 7 or 8 effectively.

People have been trying to pull me away from PowerTracks since I started using it. (cubase/cakewalk/logic users)
They explain all the things that can be done with their software & not available in PT. Maybe it is good...but I tell them "I can post a question to this forum, while working on a song, and have an answer in 10 minutes...while I'm still working." This always amazes them. I still know very little about recording software & how to use it. I know I can use what I do use. There are surely things I should be using & don't even know they exist. When I'm ready for that, I'll need friends to walk me through. That's the true power of PG products. THE FORUM.

Thanks for the responses.

I sent a fellow an email several days ago.

He received it last night.

?

It must have wandered around out there in bitland for the whole time...

That shouldn't happen, but it did.

I know Yahoo mail went down a couple days ago, for a little while.

Mick, not upset with you at all just wondering what happened. I just sent you my original reply as a new email, if you don't get it then pm me here. Check your junk or spam folders too, there's so much crap floating around now it's becoming a real problem especially at work. We have filters of course but every day an important email from one client or other winds up in one of those spam folders and sometimes it's not obvious why. When I go in this morning I will have at least 500 in my junk folder and 100 or so in the spam folder. A few of those will be real and it gets frustrating.
I think the only solution is for ISP's to start charging something like a half cent per email or whatever. It might cost all of us a few bucks a month but the spammers would not be able to pay for hundreds of millions of this crap. It would be worth it to me, that's for sure.
