I see there is a PDF in each "stlye folder" that list it's content/genre.

Is there a file or webpage that list contents/genre of all style folders in the bb directory ?

If you look at those "Style" folders, you see they don't contain styles, but only some bad demo tunes. They may be useful to you, I suppose, but the unorganized presentation makes it laborious to find anything in there, and I've never found a list all in one place.

So I delete them all as soon as an upgrade puts them back. That may sound drastic, until you accept the fact that you have never used them and almost certainly never will.

Yes ... great program ... but the folder structure could use some organization.

That's not a folder, it's just a sort of yellow plastic bucket on your hard drive.

By the way, if while cleaning up, you delete something you want back later, re-installing BiaB right over itself takes under two minutes and replaces everything, including the factory styles, flung back into the bottom of the bucket. Your customized settings will be left as you had them.

So there's no reason to be timid in the pursuit of a better BB folder, if you want one.

On the other hand, every Style demo file folder together only measures out to a bit over 30mb here...

With today's disk drive sizes, if you need to find disk space that badly, you likely need a bigger drive instead!

Absolutely correct. They are trivial in size.

The messiness of the stock BB folder makes it difficult to understand it or to find things. Ruthless pruning is good for the usability of the thing, not for the bulk.

And it's fun.

Of course, lots of folks never feel the need to fool around in the folder, and they certainly shouldn't bother with junk like this.

I actually find that having all the demo songs comes in handy when exploring the Stylemaker. There is a button there to load the demo song for any selected style automatically so I can give an "instant" listen to the style in an entire song and get a good idea of whether or not it might work in what I'm working on or not.

Deleting the demo songs would make that feature inoperable.

Most people I've talked to find the demo tunes very useful.
You can prepare a songlist of the entire BB folder, with all the subfolders, and you see genres, which you can then sort by genre. Well, not if you've deleted them already.

Yes. There are web pages for each style disk, that list the info about the styles.

I have also found the demo songs to be extremely valuable when helping someone else troubleshoot a BIAB problem from a distance, whether over the phone or via PM or email or what have you.

Just yesterday I was able to get to the bottom of a problem that was described simply as "no sound" by having the guy load an All RealTracks style from the RealTracks Demo folder -- and we heard the music. That pointed the finger at his software MIDI synth and we were able to solve the problem much faster.

Those Demo Songs are known to work and are much better for troubleshooting problems than trying to use a user created file that could be corrupted or whatever.

Whether the demo songs are lame or not is beside the point for me; they allow me to audition a style with an underlying chord progression, so I can get a pretty good feel of what the style sounds like and what kind of transitions the style makes from chord to chord. I usually just mute the melody and soloist tracks when I do that, so I can just concentrate on the sound of the style.

I also use the demo songs to listen to and examine the styles that I have never heard and/or used before. The demo songs are a great learning tool for me.

OK, a random thought;
Why does toilet paper need a commercial? Who's not buying it?

I still haven't missed them in many a year, although I can see how some get benefit from them.

They return -- entirely of their own accord -- with every update, so a fellow gets chances to reconsider, if he lives more than a year after first chucking them out.

On the other hand (to paraphrase W. C. Fields), the hell with them.
