This is sort of similar to the "5" chord which I think plays root and 5th, no third (although in looking at one style, anyway, the third was played as well ???).
And that is what I mean by saying that the Style File often controls the note selection.
The "Power Chord" of X5 works as a root-fifth with no third in styles that have been designed to be used with it, such as the metal, rock, etc. styles. And even some of those will put the third in there.
This may be the problem that would prevent doing things the way you ask, although I have no idea what's actually "under the hood" inside BIAB, I'm just relaying what I have found out through "dealing with it" over the years.
