Opened .MGU in Realband.
In Tracks view .... RB setup 9 tracks.
I right click on empty track (#10)to generate Realtrack and get
"Can't generate Realtrack on Midi that already has data"

Did you look at the event list for the track to make sure it was empty?

This gets me every time cause it's not windows convention. When you right click on a track it should first select that track but it doesn't. You have to left click on an empty track and then right click. you're getting this message because even though you are right clicking on an empty track one of the BIAB midi tracks is actually highlighted. I can 't count the number of Real Tracks I've overwritten doing this.

MIDI is not simply 'an instrument per track' with all that is needed being on that track. There are all sorts of other MIDI data that are written to tracks that appear to be empty. Try the next track down.
BTW, theoretically Track 10 in MIDI is meant for drums...
What is more, drums can be spread over many tracks (e.g. one each for snare, high-hat, bass, tom, cymbals, etc)
Just keep trying the next track down. You won't run out!

Not Track 10. But MIDI CHANNEL 10 is the GM Percussion (drums) designation. Sometimes also can be Channel 16 in certain older synths.
It is easy to confuse Tracks for Channels, they are two entirely different things. For example, you could have Channel 10 drums on Track 4 (or any other for that matter).

Thanks guys ..... it worked on next track down.
Think I was doing what Silvertones mentioned ....
I was right-clicking on what I thought was an empty track,
but not actually selecting it.

Drums are typically channel 10 Bank 127 just in case you need this info.
Danna I'm sure that's what you were doing. Glad it worked but it'll come back to haunt you just like it does me as it's not quite conventional.
