With standard midi and Real Tracks, I can successfully 'output chords' thus allowing Midi Ox to send specific channel info to trigger the real time harmonies...but DXI obviously cannnot be in this mix. I'm assuming there's no current workaround, and curious if for 2010 anyone has suggested a modification to the all or nothing 'Use VST/DXI Synth' -where the midi driver for each part can be specified, like in PT and RB.

Hmm.
What happens when you check the "Route MIDI Thru..." box below the Use DXi checkbox?
I know that is not what its for, but maybe...
If you have an older BIAB installation disk, you might look on it to see if the older VSC3 install is on there. It is not a DXi synth and it appears in the upper MIDI output window along with the other choices, the sound is only very slightly inferior to the sound of the VSC DXi and might be a solution with MIDIOX and don't overlook that this version can also be run standalone from the taskbar tray.
Your "ultimate" answer though, would be a hardware MIDI synth in the setup. Like the Ketron SD2 Orchestral Wizard. Not only would the current problem be solved, its sound is lightyears out in front of what the VSC is capable of achieving.

Thanks Mac for all generous suggestions. Regarding the checkbox, it's just for the thru channel, and you can't fool it by labeling the 'output chords' channel the same as thru. Regardin VSC3, though I've never used it, it seems like a step back, but the KETRON intrigues me. I haven't used a hardware synth since the Roland U220, but praises of the Stan Getz tenor makes me curious. I'll go on their site, and listen to samples. Coincidentally I've been looking at the samplemodeling tenor and trumpet...and even the $500 Chris Hein horns...perhaps the $400 Ketron might be something to look at.
Speaking of which...when using hardware synths for recording these days, do most folks trigger the part with midi , THEN record it as an audio track into RB so the final mix can be all done 'on board' ........or leave the parts fed thru midi till the very end?

and lo and behold....MAC's "PEG" is the first listed sample! If I buy, you should demand 20%! The orchestral sounds are nice...though the sax doesn't seem to favorably compare with this software synth: http://www.samplemodeling.com/en/products_sax.php I wonder what else is out there hiding in terms of sound. So far the most impressive thing I've heard in the Real Tracks pedal steel. Each time I use it, I feel I should pay a royalty check! Dan

One thing i though of was to use Real Band instead of BiaB, and then to trigger the harmonies duplicate the piano track, or accoustic guitar , and route that to the TC, and the original to softsynth.

It's indeed a workaround, though the purpose I use this for is to play licks behind me scatting with my own vocal quartet, and for this frivalous pursuit, BIAB is ideal- nothing to set, just open the program and go.
In answering Mac, it became apparent that the solution to this is indeed a second check box under 'route to VSC DXI' but instead of the THRU option to use the standard midi driver.....the CHORD OUTPUT to use one as well.
Don't know if Peter or any of the engineers will see this, but even in an age of real tracks, SING HARMONIES WITH DXI can be one of the 50 additional features that may open a wallet or two when 2010 rolls out.
