Okay
I need some clarity on this whole "Patch Map and 'Higher Banks" thing in BIAB.
Question:
If I download and select a patch map for my synth/workstation (Yamaha MO8), how exactly does BIAB utilize this information?
Should I expect BIAB to be able to access all the correct instruments (voices) of my MO8 when each song is loaded regardless of the style as it does when I use the VSC DXI?
Or should I have to also configure my MO8 for each song as I go along?
Is there a "step by step" tutorial on this somewhere?
Any help is appreciated.

The patch map allows access to the higher banked instruments. Once you have installed it AND selected it in Biab, you should be able to access your higher banked instruments. You will need to select them for EACH Biab instrument. IE= select bass radio button, then click the instrument change box and select a higher banked Bass instrument.
You only need to install and select the patch map one time. But, select each instrument you want to change to a higher banked sound.

Here are some patch maps already written and supplied to (or by) PG Music: http://www.pgmusic.com/support_miscellaneous.htmThere is an .INI file already there for your MO8. Download that, unzip it, and read the instructions at the top of the file. Once in BIAB, you click on the little + sign to load the patch map (once), and then select the individual patches for each instrument. When you Save your BIAB song, be sure to do it by File, Save with Patches and Harmony. Then you can reload the song and the patches will be intact. In BIAB, go to Help and select Index and then "Patches on Higher Bank Dialog." I don't know that there is much more that could be in a tutorial. Just try it and let us know where you need help.

Unless you save the song using Alt-F2, or Save with Patches and Harmonies, Band In A Box will open the song each time with a General MIDI set of sounds.
Using the patch maps, the '.pat' files, as Matt states, will open a dialog box that will allow you to select a General MIDI sound from the drop down menu called 'Variation of', and then whatever variations are available to that sound. Depending on how Yamaha has organized the banks, selecting the Acoustic Grand Piano should give all the Grand pianos available below.
You may also select All Sounds from the drop down menu and all of your sounds will show up below, but that makes it kind of hard if you have 1,000 sounds and are looking for a tenor sax. It's easier to go to the Tenor Sax from the drop down, and then look for the variations.
Of course, if Yamaha has put that one special tenor you want with a program number that matches the acoustic bass, but in a different bank, then you're going to have problems finding it under variations of the General MIDI tenor.
