Hello, each version/revision of Band in a Box is like a fantastic Pandora box! and 2009.5 (284) is not the exception, GREAT! truly thanks to all PG team. Just one thing, despite I know Real Tracks is the prima donna getting the most of the user interest, even mine but there is an old bug not fixed yet; Audio/Midi simultaneous recording function still not working, despite I try differents audio cards/drivers, different PCs, OS etc. to myself it is an important feature since I use Band in a Box in classroom with my students with a MIDI guitar and frequently I record my guitar soloing in the audio track and wanted recording MIDI for get the guitar score at same time ....not possible because this feature does not work. Or imagine the scenario, a singer recording his/her performance in the BIAB audio track while record the MIDI performance on keyboard controller at same time, again, not possible because this feature does not work. I consider a hassle to have to export songs in a DAW (Cubase, Sonar, PT, etc) for do that, losing in that way part of the enormous versatility of BIAB real time features. I did report it by 2008 version and I remember past year Peter (Ganon) did confirm this as a bug and put it in the list for issues for future fix. There is news about? or just it lack of importance since it not seem a so requested feature ? .

This is a little IMAGE CAPTURE for help to understanding this issue.

Cheers

Carlos

Hmmmmmm

I never thought about doing that in BB, as do all that sort of thing in RealBand or PowerTracks. When I play a live audio from my midi keyboard, it will send the midi signals to another track, then ask me if I want to keep them or discard them.

If I keep them, I get the audio and midi on two seperate tracks. Kind of a nice feature in some cases.

Thanks Toucher. Good to know that, I will try it. And yes, that is the kind of things hopefully a DAW could make. However, like last measure I prefer turn to Cubase or Nuendo for that task since I am more familiarized with. I still think It could be great if BIAB get fixed the bug since that is an official included feature in the program.

Yes, this confirmed bug in BIAB needs attention!

Carlos, my bad, I did not write this one down to a file so that I could check it out during the recent beta test of 2009.5. --And I meant to do that--

Keep in mind that Real Band is not just a DAW. It's a combination of Biab and a DAW. With only a few exceptions, you can do everything that Biab can do in Real Band plus all the normal DAW features. It will open Biab songs as well as create new tracks using Biab styles. This is in addition to it's being a good audio/midi sequencer. It's certainly true that this is a bug and needs to be fixed but if you can do what you want in RB only much better, who cares? In the last few weeks I've written a couple of very detailed (probably too detailed, sometimes I tend to run on a little) descriptions of what RB does. If you're interested, do a forum search of my name, you'll find them. Others of course have posted some very good things about RB too, it's well worth your time to read up on it.

Hello Carlos,

If you go to the Audio menu | Record Audio and MIDI, it should work.

Hi Andrew,

That doesn't work here either.

All that gets recorded is the Audio from my MIDI keyboard's output. No MIDI gets recorded, even though I've checked the "Record Audio and MIDI" function.

Strange, it (recording audio and MIDI) works for me from the Audio Menu (item Audio- Record Audio and MIDI to Melody), but not from the Audio button on the toolbar.
I'll fix the button so that works for audio and MIDI also. Should be in the next build.

Thanks Andrew, Peter, you both are right, I had not realized that !! I had never attempted it from audio menu and now I can see it work perfect, besides icons I usually try menu alternatives in cases of software bugs, this time I didn´t ... duh!! ..I feel so embarrassed , I made lot of hardware and driver testing and invest long time around this issue without positive results and I never thought of try the audio menu, just the R.Aud red icon, but no MIDI gets recorded, even with the "Record Audio and MIDI" function checked. Now I will recover the down time.

Thanks for the report, jazzpick, after seeing your result, I tried again. Same thing. So I tried Ye Olde Return to Factory Settings button number 2 and now I enjoy MIDI plus Audio recording at the same time again! --but only from the *menu* selection and not from within the Audio button's child window, just like Peter said he'll get fixed.

One thing I noticed while testing this out. When recording audio and MIDI, at the end of the take, the question "Keep take Y/N" currently applies to the audio only, as it has automactically kept the MIDI recorded take and put it on the Melody track (and falsely reports "0" MIDI notes recorded). So keep that in mind when doing this recording. As mentioned, the next build of BB will fix the "Audio record button" so that you can do the audio/MIDI from that, and also fix the "keep take" issue so that neither audio or MIDI gets kept if you dont keep take.

Yes, you right, thanks, also I noticed it ab initio some months ago. Now I think maybe I did try the menu, not sure now, but maybe I didn´t check results when I noticed the false reports "0" MIDI notes recorded which also happened with Audio button. Another thing I noticed is a issue after recording MIDI and audio, UNDO only act over the audio recording but the MIDI data still in the track despite UNDO and have to be deleted manually.

There is a beta version available now that hould fix the audio/MIDI recording issue.
http://www.pgmusic.com/support_windowsupdates.htm#287

To record audio/MIDI, either use the menu item, or SHIFT click on the Record audio button (there is a reminder of that in the record audio dialog). Please let me know if it fixes the issue. (I havent looked at the undo issue though).

Hi, fixed all right! SHIFT click on the Record button is working. Now both tracks, melody and soloist selectively does record MIDI with audio at same time. I recorded this video playing my Epiphone Joe Pass guitar, a GK3 midipickup and Roland GI-20 as example of simultaneous audio MIDI recording in Band in a Box 2009.5. Thanks so much Peter.
