Hi,

when converting a MIDI track into an audio track I accidenrally chose the MIDI track as destination track, so it became a hybrid track. Although I could fix it by re-importing the MIDI track from the previous version of that song I wanted to find out if su h a hybrid track can be split after the file was closed and re-opened. I spent quite some time looking for the respective command, but couldn't find one.

Just out of curiosity: Would that be at all possible?

Thanks, Stefan

Not sure what you mean by a hybrid track. I always thought a track could only be one of either only a mono audio, stereo audio, or MIDI track.

Yep... me too. I've been in this for many years and never heard of a hybrid track. It's either audio or midi, but not both.

My guess is you only think it's that way when it's actually not. try exporting just that one track and see what happens.

Who knows... maybe you discovered the Borg of the music world.

On the serious side I have been working with MIDI since the late 80's and I have never heard of a hybrid track.

You can convert a MIDI track to Audio track (on a different track number), but if the destination track was originally set to MIDI, the conversion will replace it with an Audio Track. I don't know about hybrid tracks. Could the 'terminology' be interpreted by me incorrectly?

Oh boy, this is really embarrassing for me and I am sorry for having brought that stupid issue up - looks like I made a fool of myself.

This is how it happened:

I hadn’t heard of a combined MIDI / audio track before either, but since I’m still new to all this and RB surprises me (positively) every day, I fell into the trap.

First of all, I wouldn’t have expected that RB suggests the source MIDI track as default destination track and thus overwrite the MIDI data for good without giving any warning.

Secondly, I converted the MIDI track using a new VST instrument. The result was a horzontally splt track with two completely different parts: The lower one was clearly a wave while the upper one showed something that I (being blind as a mole anyway) took as dots which I interpreted as my MIDI data. Now I know that it must have been just a stereo track with a high gain in the lower channel and almost no gain in the upper one. When converting MIDI into audio the resulting stereo channels very often have different gains, but never to that extent - still don’t know how that could happen...

Well, how stupid can you get... sorry again.

If I follow you correctly ..

You say the Upper half was dots and Lower was Waveform.

In RB the Waveform is on the top of an expanded track view and the dots (Nodes) are below.

Were the 'dots' actually from the bottom half of the track above?
Otherwise your explanation confuses me and a screen shot would be worth a bundle.

Hi rharv,

thanks fot your helpfulness and sorry for my belated reply.

No, unfortunately I can’t post a screen shot: I saw that track, was mislroutede by what I thought I was seeing, searched a while for a solution and finally removed that track, re-imported the orgininal MIDI track and converted it to an empty track.

And no, I definitely did not expand the track and thus saw the velocity track. I am sure that it was like I described it: It was a stereo track the upper of channel which must have had very little input. And if you’re eyesight’s as poor as mine (in fact les than 10%) things look like dots very easily frown. Still very embarrassing that I started this topic due to that...

Thanks again, Stefan
