Hi all,
I've just started to get back into recording. I'm using
BIAB and PT lastest versions. [Windows XP]
So far no problem recording my guitar direct and using the DX effects does wonders.
Question is: Can I hear the effects {reverb and EQ} while I'm recording?
When I record I can only hear it dry. I'd love to hear my guitar or voice with some EQ and Reverb while I'm recording.
Does BIAB or PT or any other software allow this to work?
Any help would be really appreciated,

. . . And the common analog technique for doing this is to run effects into the phones/monitors, but not through the mains and onto tape/disk. This is easier to accomplish if you are using a board. I have even seen headphone amplifiers with FX busses intended specifically for this. Sorry, but I don't know a software solution. Mac?

PT has a setting for Live Effects, uses quite a bit of CPU power, but if you have that, you might give it a try. Works with DX or VST realtime effects and you should use ASIO sound drivers with it.

I was getting to post the same question that Wayne asked. Coming from stand-alone recording units, I've never recorded one note on a computer, but would like to give Real Band a try. I've got the latest version loaded. All I want to do is add live vocals, guitar melody lines, and other overdubs to existing BIAB files. I've got to be able to hear effects while recording, if that's possible. Is that issue tied to the type interface one uses? I've browsed thru the help menu, but still don't know how to set-up the audio recording aspect. What do you plug your mic, guitar, etc. into to get the audio into Real Band? We're down to basics here for someone who's never done this. I wish they had a tutorial showing someone doing live recording in real time (with vocals and various intstruments) with RB. Maybe it's out there and I've not found it yet.

Thank You ALL! Once the question was answered, I could finally stop searching to see what I might be doing wrong or missing. I'm just starting with some guitar lead work and I mostly just wanted a little EQ to play with the tone I like. It's not too far off dry. Thanks again everone, You made my day. Wayne W.

Wayne, I much prefer to hear a little reverb when I record. I think it makes me play better!
If you are not recording live vocals with a mic at the same time, and are just doing guitar parts, you could Y your guitar signal to an amp as well as to the computer. A small mixer would be the best way to do this. Also, even simpler, some amps have a pass-through, so you could listen to yourself with reverb while recording dry.
On one of my CDs, the electric guitarist chose to record from his Line 6 unit, with reverb on. It sounded great in the mix until the band played a stop, at which time the tails of the guitar notes spilled over into the rest. We had to edit every one of these to cut the guitar short. After that experience, for most situations, I much prefer to record dry and add effects to taste in the software.
