Hi Folks,

Been messing with the Tc-helicon in biab and there are a lot of settings in there with lots of different harmonies to choose from.

I was just wondering is there any particular settings and choice of harmony voices that people generally agree on that are best for a male singing a country song? (I have the average vocal range)

And is it possible to put each harmony voice on a different track in a sequencer without the original vocal?

Many Thanks,
Paddy

Hello,

I usually use the 1up 1dn harmony and set them to record to their own tracks.

I also use the "follow the chords" setting for the generation of the harmonies.

Make sure you use a clean, dry, in-tune mono vocal track as the guide track.

You can add FX to each harmony part in the final mixdown. If you have reverb recorded on your guide track, the TC will add pops-n-farts in the harmony generation.

Trial and error.

Nice job on the track Trax.......:)

I haven't tried a horn, but I did use it on my strat a couple of time. Works pretty well for simple lead lines. Kinda like the vocals, keep it simple and clean and you have lots of options.

Works a treat.

Matter of fact, that is demonstrated in one of the new videos, using RealTrack Soprano Sax and putting another great sounding Sax underneath the first one.

I've been using the TC Helicon with my Trumpet and Flugel like that since almost day one with very good results. Give it a try. One down works very well, instant 2nd Trumpet. One down and one up has its moments, too.

Trax,

Forgot to ask you if its real band or powertracks you are using and if there is a setting on there to put harmony on each track?

thanks

Paddy

Hello,

I use Power Tracks for all of my harmonies and final mixes.

When you click on the "H" button, the dialog box opens for the TC harmonies. To the right side of that box, you set the Audio Input track/harmony output type/Audio output tracks.

Input-Select your vocal track.
Output Type-Multiple Mono Tracks
Audio Output Tracks-Select the next available track. (You only need to select one). Power Tracks will place the harmonies on individual tracks for ya, if you are using more then a single harmony.

On the left side of that box, I select "harmonize to the chord symbols." (Make sure you have the chords typed in the ("C7"button at the top of PT) chord view. You only need to enter the chords in the measures/bars you are wanting to create your harmonies with. The chords are vital to the generation process. You can go from a C to C7 etc... and the harmonies will follow the chords and generate the 7th part etc . . .

You can then select the measures/bars you want to generate your harmonies with the "From Bar" in the same dialog box. Very nice for generating certain parts of a song etc . . . Try different harmony parts (2dn 1 up) where you want a "fuller" sounding chorus/bridge etc..., whatever the case may be. Use it to "build" your song with, works very well.

The main thing is using a clean, dry, in-tune mono vocal track as the input track. Generate some parts.
Then pan the harmony tracks to R&L of vocal track & give em some FX. I start with the "background singer" preset for the DX FX in the track. Then adjust to taste.

You will have to do some trial and error, but once you understand how the TC uses the vocal track and chords to create with, you will be on your way. They will sound robotic in the preview, you have to add some FX and stuff to them post generation in order for them to blend in and sound good.

Good luck,

Trax

Thanks very much for the detailed explanation Trax. Will save it as a test file for future reference.

I use cubase sx and I have a plugin called steinberg voice machine (I think it's based on tc-helicon as wel)l but I guess the pg version is the best.

Thanks again Trax.
