Need help understanding the RealTracks and styles,

When loading some styles the message comes up saying some of the tracks are not available. How do I track those down, The RealTracks number system is a bit hard to follow and I'm not sure of the tracks I have and why some are missing...

I purchased the pro version 201 new realtracks..

torr,

I think you'll probably need to contact PG Music about this. I do not know the specific tracks that come with the ProPak. All I know is that it is an entry level package that gives users a selection of popular Realtracks.

There are over 2,000 Realtracks in the full-blown version of BIAB. Given that the ProPak only has about 10% of these, chances are that you will encounter styles that do not have all the tracks.

Regards,
Noel

That would be my thought. Unless you have the everything pack, you will be missing some of the tracks.

If there are specific tracks you want, there's 2 options. Buy the upgrade and have everything or buy those specific tracks in their packs....a-la-cart.

That's actually how I started... a basic BB package and the real tracks package with steel guitar. I eventually moved up the food chain and got the everything pack..... and have been there ever since.

A RealStyle is just a collection of RealTracks that (for the most part) work well together. But to use the RealStyle, you have to have the underlying RealStyles available.

So, if you find that a style you selected is missing a RealTrack (or two), because the Pro version truly is an introductory version with just enough content to give you a taste, then you'll just have to substitute that track with one of the RealTracks that you do have. Then when you save the song, it will be play with that substitution the next time you load it.

If you find yourself needing more RealTracks, then consider upgrading to the UltraPlusPak or the EverythingPak, which will give you all the underlying RealTracks that the styles reference.

What they said.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think you could also substitute a MIDI track for a missing RealTrack. It's surprising how well this can work in the mix. For my Latin jazz charts, I often intentionally put in a MIDI piano.

If it looks like I'm not sure, it's because I don't actually use RealStyles. As John just explained, they are only a preselected collection of RealTracks. You can just construct your own mix, which we were doing for years before RealStyles were introduced. Old habits...

It hasn't worked when Ive tried to replace an RT track with a midi. It works the other way - if the track was midi I can sub an RT to it but subbing a standard midi into an extant RT doesn't go. Well, not for me anyway.

Ian,

Sometimes when a Realtrack is removed, there is an underlying midi track that will play. Also sometimes, though, there is no underlying midi track.

In the second instance above, it's necessary to import a midi track from a different style. This is needed because there is no midi information present if there is no underlying midi track.

Regards,
Noel

Noel, this is very interesting! I am just about to go on a short holiday so would like to follow this up when I get back. I have no idea how to "import" a midi from another style into an RT style I am working on. Often I wish I did!

Hello Torr71. Welcome to Band-in-a-Box and to the forum!

You should be able to use the memo box in the Stylepicker to read the name of every instrument used in the style. Once we know the name of the missing instrument we can look up what RealTracks set includes the instrument.

As others have mentioned the ProPak only includes about 10% of the available RealTracks. But the ProPak is great for learning about Band-in-a-Box and RealBand. While the ProPak and MegaPak do not include everything, both packages include enough styles and RealTracks to experience everything these programs offer.

Well, the number system ... a new track gets a new number. There is no spcific system, just ordinary numbers. The first track got number one, the next number two ... and after track 2159 there will be a track with the number 2160. There is no system to figure out which number circuit covers which intstrument.

You can find out what you don't have by clicking "help" and "What add-ons do I have".
