I save a song in PT with changes in track setting like mute or volume changes and the next song has the same changes. I would like the next song to come back as the way that I saved that song. How can I do that?
I have 2005 PT.

I saved .KAR files in seq. I wanted to not play the melody track every time I open the file. I open the track and unclick the track. Now the melody line does not play. I press the save botton and it says saved as MIDI. The next song I open has the same setting but the melody track is a different track. So I mute that track and save. I go back to the orginal track and my changes in the track settings are not there. How can I keep these different track changes for every song?

lynx. i'm still a tad confused and dont use kar files. so mebe i'm missing something mate. lets step thru it. lets take one song called "xyz". prior to saveing as xyz.seq just mute the trak you dont want to play next time you load the seq.
mebe i'm wrong but sounds to me you should be useing the save as option to seq rather than the save option. lets go a step further. lets say you want song xyz to be saved with different settings variations. you could save as xyzv1.seq, xyzv2.seq etc etc.
OR are you saying you want one saved setting saved in one seq auto used on another ??

I think you are saying that the setting is acting globally. I don't think that should be the case either.
Give me a little time to check that out on this end, see if it can be duplicated.
***Try hitting "New" before opening the next song... ***

Manning1 - I tried that and still no joy. The track settings are not saving. I could record as .wav but I want to save my hard drive space. I am hopeing there is a setting that I do not know of somewhere.

**Instead of Muting the track, try invoking a Volume Change to nothing at the beginning of that track, then save.

Lynx a question...are these traks that you created ?? OR ones you got from somewhere. ?? what happens is if you got them from somewhere the author of such has embedded control commands in the midi stream eg volume change. these have to be overriden or deleted by you as mac stated. with songs of this nature , and i'm assuming midi here , that a third party has created .. its best to look in ptw's event editor or ptw's midimon to see what control commands have been embedded by the creator. whats happening is that your commands are being overriden by the original creator of the midi file.
the clue is given by looking at ptw mixer ..setting a pan or volume on a track and if it plops back to its original position no matter how you set your setting.. then this indicates embedded override takeing place.

You are correct, these are not my tracks. Any settings revert back. I thought as much. Is there any way to override without converting to .wav ?
If I save as wav, How much would the file size be reduced by the different settings?

I find this strange as I can change the notes on the tracks and it saves. I was expecting I could do the same with volume or mute.

I note that you appear to be opening a .kar file and then "SAVE" again which updates the file as MIDI file. Midi files require Midi instructions to be embedded in the file. If it is your intention to save as a .seq file then you need to "SAVE AS" and specifically select .seq.

You can do the same, but if there is a control change in the song, and you save it with another one right before the existing one, think about what happens when the song plays - Your 'turn down' message gets read at the beginning, then the existing 'turn it up' message gets read right afterwards. Much different than changing a note.. Make sure there are no control changes in the event list that will undo what you are doing.
Also ,as Lyn averted to; make sure you are opening the file you save as.
It may be 'saving as midi' and making a .mid file, and then you are opening the original kar file again (?)
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

Clear the tracks by selecting New before loading the next file. You shouldn't need to do this, but????

I'm thinking that perhaps a reinstall of the main program is in order here...

I installed BB in 05 and reinstalled PT months ago. I seam to have a few bugs here. Not sure that I want to reinstall BB with a hard drive 96% full. I think I will live with it until I get another computer.

Well, there's your problem.
That's not enough free space for a hard drive.
You are skirting disaster and could lose all of your data at any time.
That disk can't even Defrag with only 4% freespace.
See if you can eliminate some files or archive them, then use Disk Cleanup utility, try to get at least 15% freespace on the drive, then run Defrag program on it. Expect it to take a loooong time to Defrag, good idea to start it at night and go to bed, let the defrag run all night. Also, turn off any Antivirus scanner and disconnect from internet when defragging, it'll go faster.
