Just got a new laptop with Vista 64 installed. Had a copy of BnB 2005 and VSC but the VSC won't work or let me render any tunes. Do I need to upgrade everything?

Hi celticman,
VSC or VSC DXi will not work in Vista 64 and possibly never will because it is an old program and has not been updated for years
Use Coyote Forti DXi available from the PG site

Go to Options = Midi and select the Dxi Box, the application (forte) should show up.
Note that there are other plugins that show up, you can chain some of them, but for a start just put in the forte synth.
Note that this will play the midi notes, and the 'wav' files ie. Realdrums etc, will come from the sound card. In order to optimize performance go into setup and ensure that all the sliders are pushed up, except for mic, cause lots of laptops have a little mic built in and your finger anywhere near it causes noise. But the midi slider and the sound slider should both be at maximum for best results. You can change the volume of tracks once Band in a Box is running by selecting the instrument and moving it up or down with 127 being max and 0 being...well...zero.

You have to check the Dxi box, it's not going to show up in the midi list. I'm sure there must be a read me file in the folder with Forte. So the short of it is when you get the Midi list up look about the bottom right area and check that box, then from that menu choose Forte.

And if you've a legit program you sould be using LiveHelp I'm at a friends and don't have the program running and don't use Forte, so I'm going from memory. I'm also on IE8 and don't understand why anyone in the whole world would elect to use it...JUNKWARE. 30 seconds to load vrs 4 for Firefox...wow.

Hi celticman,
Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features and delete all versions of VSC - Virtual Sound Canvas DXi and VST
Then go to Search and type in VSC or Roland and delete anything that shows up in there - close down computer wait 20 seconds and boot
John - yes Firefox is quicker than IE8 here by about 2 seconds - in IE8 it is best to turn off some of the filters which slowdown browsers.
Agree that Firefox is far superior on many fronts jazzman

I've tried installing the demo for my Win7/64bit and while it DOES work and I get sounds, about every 3 seconds the sound drops out. This also happens when I render the midi to a wave through the BIAB interface.
I'm wary of spending $40 to purchase this since it would be useless if this carries over to the full version.
Is this a known issue with the demo package? Or does this indicate some other issue going on inside my setup.
I'm totally frustrated trying to find ANY 64bit dxi type synths and can't believe with everyone now using 64bit (pretty much) there's like zero packages on the market to make this work.
Just one, the Forte written back like 4 years ago?

Eric,
Try turning off User Account Control (Control Panel >> User Accounts) and see if that makes a difference. If it doesn't make any difference, simply go back to Control Panel and reactivate it.
Also, what directory (or folder) do you run BIAB from (c:\bb, c:\program files\bb, or USB)?
Regards, Noel

Band-in-a-Box 2010 includes a 64-bit compatible DXi synthesizer called the Coyote WaveTable. The Coyote Forte is another option ($40), and the Cakewalk TTS-1 (included with Music Creator 5 - $39) is a third option. ----- Hello Eric, Quote:

This means that you've had it installed for more than the 30 days, so the demo mode is over - it should be giving you a message to that effect. Perhaps you installed it sometime in the past.

It sounds like you were used to using the stand-alone version of the Roland VSC. IF you are using the VSC you should use the DXi or VSTi version. But since you are on a 64-bit system you won't be using any version of the VSC and you should uninstall it as mentioned. When rendering to wave using non-DXi MIDI drivers, you had to either listen to real-time or use a special function to direct-render with the stand-alone VSC. Instead what you should be doing, is pressing the DXi-Direct Render button.
Make sure you have installed the latest update patch for your version.
For reference, there is a complete tutorial on rendering in BB, here.

Hi, Andrew -
It might do users a service if the installation program for VSC-DXi checked to see if you were running 64-bit Vista or Windows 7, and instead of allowing you to install it, popped up with a box suggesting the alternatives available.
Just a thought.
