Today I just tried recording an audio track for the 1st time. I connected the audio out on my Clavinova to the line in of my sound card. The first thing that surprised me was that the input VU meter showed activity even when I wasn't playing anything on the Clav. It seemed to be moving in synch with the Output VU meter, e.g., in synch with the BiaB accompaniment. After I recorded a little bit and saved it, I played back the WAV file that was created, and was surprised to hear both my Clav playing and the BiaB backup. Is this the way it's supposed to work? I thought that the audio track (e.g., WAV file) would only contain whatever was playing through the line input.

Welcome Andy. In the mixer applet for the card, in the recording section, disable "what U hear" or equivalent. Mic also. Leave the line-in enabled. If that doesn't work, post back with more detail.

Thanks. That did it! The sound card (such that it is) is byRealtek (on the mother board -not a separate sound card). In the recording section of the dialog for the Realtek mixer, there are sliders for 'Line In", "Mic" and "Stereo Mix" . There is a "mute" button for each input source. Clicking mute for the Stereo Mix solved it.

Yes, "Stereo Mix" is Realtec's way of saying "What U Hear".
