Was wondering if anyone is using Finale in conjunction with BIAB? I am interested in the music scanning abilities of Finale.

I used to use Finale with BIAB. I crossgraded over to Sibelius now, but the Finale program is a very good Music Notation Suite.
As for the scanning of sheet music, it is not for someone who can't or doesn't read music, IMO, as after the scanning there will typically be plenty of things that need correcting manually and you must be able to read the chart and know what to look for in order to pull that one off.
To be fair, certain sheets scan better than others. Printed musics of the "right" font and possibly the "right" contrast, etc. will be scanned with less mistakes than handwritten music charts or even some printed sheets. Even so, the process does not really represent a way to get around the ability to read music. In other words, you can't just scan and then have something that other musicians, skilled in the art, can read and play without some corrections being needed typically.

In my opinion scanning is a waste of time. The other options are in order of MY preference:
1. Enter it note by note, and write the chords in while doing so. Some people may not be able to figure out the chords though.
2. Find it in the vast number of Band in a box tunes that other have.
3. Find a midi file, import it, fiddle with it, and come up with something close.
4. Find a fakebook from a site like Notes Norton's, and use the book to play along with the chords and styles he provides.
5. Enter the piece directly to Band in a Box yourself, both notes and chords.
6. Buy a fakebook and enter the chords and or notes yourself.
Our brass band rehearsal social hour turned into this discussion about scanning music. At least 5 of the people are music geeks at university, and all admit that trying to scan music is for the most part, a waste of time. I've cut apart books, scanned what I thought were great looking scores and had them come out wrong.
Then, worse, brass band scores are small, and do things like put a rest backwards to double it, save space with endings and weird codas and repeats, that just never would work.

Ditto to what Mac and John said. I have Sibelius but used to use PrintMusic. I bought the pro upgrade scanning software. The scan preview looks fine, but after the final scan, there are tons of errors. To me it's such a p.i.t.a. that I can enter the notation in manually faster than scanning thereby saving a lot of time and frustration. I don't know why they can't get the ocr software to work better, but it could be the notation differences on the charts to be scanned. Truthfully, I fought the manual entry bit for awhile, but there are little time-saving tips that you will learn such as copy and pasting repeating phrases, etc.. Just my 4 cents worth....
